We are in an interesting position. Obviously we have big time culture problems, with alot of our team playing for cash or the opportunity to make it in the NFL, and not LSU. So Brian Kelly who I love and know he will fix it says we will be forced to use the transfer portal. Well won't we be just getting everyone elses quitters and problems?

That is pretty much the status quo for all of college football now.

I am kind of glad for the purge. The ones left will be the ones that really want to be here to build the future.

We will see what a team made of true dedication will look like real soon.

When I read this type of poorly thought out post I just want to ask... OK, what is your suggestion?"

I just don’t understand why they’d leave if they’re marginal NFL talent or another school just because CBC will work them harder. You’re going to play for a much better staff who will make you more likely to win a championship and make you more NFL ready. Why not put in the work now? You can’t fake that in the NFL

Going into the portal doesn't make you a quitter, IMO. Having a procedure in the middle of the season that could have waited until after the season makes you a quitter. Opting out in the middle of the season makes you a quitter IMO. If you stay through the entire season, work hard with your teammates and compete in the bowl game....then decide that you need a better situation for the next season....those aren't the quitters. Max Johnson is a loser. I hope he rots on the bench over at A&M....he left his teammates in a real bad situation and didn't have to. Vengeful little prick. Karma is coming for him.

Getting Heisman Trophy winning QB transfers like Cam Newton, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray or Joe Burrow is getting somebody else's "problem"? Give me those problems all day long. If you think a player is a quitter because he wants a change of scenery, a fresh start, a new challenge, or even a better finanacial package - then tell me why Brian Kelly isn't a quiiter.

Yeah, I don't understand this? What was difference if he played the bowl game for LSU then went to A&M yesterday? Was the timing of our game part of the problem if he stayed?

Can’t compare Brian Kelly leaving schools to a athlete leaving... one is a job that pays for family the other is a kid who is being given a opportunity to represent where he chooses to play and develop in life and grow as a person..

Kids straight out of high school are gambles, too. Look at Gilbert. More problems than you can count.

Players off the portal don't have quite as many unknowns. That's not saying there aren't any surprises like how well they recover from injuries or if they can play in new systems. But, transfers are a little older in age and they've been in a college program before. Hopefully there's more tape and more maturity.

Get over it on the transfer portal. You're telling me you'd rather be a backup for 4 years over actually PLAYING football?

Coach Prime said it best today... if coaches can leave anytime they want, why can't players?

LSU will reap far more benefits from the portal than we will see negative impact. Joe Burrow is a perfect example of what is possible when players look for a new opportunity, whether its a sophomore or a graduate transfer.

Thanks for the great replies. I believe the flawed system will change and change quickly or LSU will need a bigger payroll than the Saints to be competitive. You will see a quick rise from schools with a desire to win and rich Alumni , like the old Pony Express and SMU. The way I look at things we will also need Don Corleone to handle the transfer portal after the kids get there money. It's a flat out silly system.
