For the record, I hope we pass <20% every game, go undefeated, and win the national championship, just to see how hard everybody melts.
We can't beat the better teams on our schedule with such a predictable and unbalanced offense. It works fine against teams we are physically superior to, but not against teams with similar talent. That's when coaching strategy and tactics matter the most.

Young and/or inexperienced QBs can, and do, play very well.
Name three first-year underclassman starting QBs who have won the SEC in the last 10 years. I'll wait.

Maybe the last 3 SEC champions: Jake Coker, Blake Sims, and Nick Marshall

The quarterback transfer spent his fall and winter nights studying Cam Cameron’s and Les Miles’ book of plays, schemes and formations.
And, yes, it has grown.
It took all fall and winter to learn 4 plays? And now it's up to what, 8?

2010 Cam Newton

2007 Matt Flynn

Should have qualified that with the word "underclassmen." You knew what I meant, jerkoffs.

it's funny you guys think a WR coach is going to come in here & totally revamp the offense. then why give cam a 3 year deal.

I'll still watch every game, though.
ETA: RC beat me to the Peanuts gif.
Great minds and all that.

8 plays with only 2 receivers running routes. It can't be that difficult. Our opponents figure it out quickly.

LSU won the SEC in 2007 (his sophomore year and first year as a starter).

power I run, toss dive, power sweep, roll out curl when needed. How hard can it be?

and had a really hard time winning that game against him. In fact I would say Fla would have won if not for the exploits of Jacob Hester. But I do think a young QB can come in and do well and win right away. Winston did at Fla St and others have.
I think a lot of it has to do with them feeling comfortable in the system they're in.

I'm not saying it's impossible. But you're comparing them to Heisman winners.
The point is, young QBs in the SEC seldom win championships. Because it's really hard.
For the above poster to discount that difficulty is a bit absurd.

I also agree with BH about needing to improve execution. he is saying all the right things.
What else would you expect him to say? The passing game was mediocre at best last season.

Is that the game where we went for it on 4th down about 4 times? Hester and the OL had a great game, but we were lucky.

quote:Who are you talkin to?? If me, I'm not discounting anything. Just stating that a underclassmen can win right away in the SEC like others on here are sayin. Win in the right system imo. LSU's system is a clusterfrick like people on here know. You don't know what they are running most of the time. You know that they are a power running team that loves to run the hell out of the football. Early on in Miles' tenure they could get away with it because teams hadn't figured them out yet. But now everyone in the SEC knows that Miles' loves to run the football since he has been coach there now with his running back by committee strategy. If he has one dominant RB that is real good like Leonard Fournette that RB will get most of the carries, otherwise it's different backs sharing the load. They will pass when necessary to keep a drive alive, but they have been exposed now and are in desperate need of change. (They need a passing game!) And it is hard for a QB to develop in a system like that and be good right away.
For the above poster to discount that possibility is a bit absurd.
let me come back and say this. You are talkin about young QB's can't be good right away in the SEC and those that were are usually Heisman candidates. Well, I think if Harris would have played in a system like Watson of Clemson he would have been a juggernaut as well as Heisman candidate himself. Clemson has real good talent, but LSU's talent is better imo. Harris is surrounded by ridiculous receiving talent that just needs the ball thrown to them regularly to develop. I'm not only talkin about WR's, but TE's and the RB's (LF and Guice). He can take off and run at will whenever he gets in trouble or whenever the hell he wants. Just give him the green light to do so, don't hold him back and let the kid play using those explosive abilities that he has. The numbers would be explosive if they just used that talent to the utmost. They would give an Alabama fits spreading them out like that and using all that talent instead of continuing to play power football and reducing all that ability. They play right into Bama's hands when they play like that.
