Again, fussing at Johnny is not the same as telling reporters that Johnny sucks when Johnny has sucked alot less than Joey and Jerry.
Morgan and Crews are the only two regular starters that have hit above .219 in league play. Crews is hitting .286 and Morgan .314. When your "best" other players are Doughty (.219), Beloso (.120), Dugas (.206), and Thompson (.214)...the difference between the suck of Johnny, Joey, and Jerry is kind of meaningless. They've all been bad. Travinski is 0-14 in SEC play, so I don't even know why people even care if Milazzo is playing C instead of him right now. Those homeruns he can hit against midweek level pitching doesn't really matter when he's struck out 10 times in 14 at bats against SEC pitching.

We need for them to be physically tough, though.

They look fine physically. We just need them to perform better. Along with the rest of the team

Dugas is hitting .206....Cranford is south of Mendoza...where is their challenge?
Not everyone is motivated the same way. Maybe Doughty responds to criticism well and Dugas and Cranford don’t. In SEC play you rely on your best players. Doughty obviously has very high expectations of him and he is not meeting them in SEC play. He’s trying to motivate him to up his level of play and meet expectations

Call them all out.
"Our hitters have all let us down in SEC play except for Tre and Crews."
Now we're talking.

Now if you want to take Doughty aside in the cage and offer him some coaching on how he could get better against good pitching that's one thing.
That's just the thing about the interview. He didn't really "go after Cade." T-Bob asked PM why the team wasn't able to hit SEC pitching like they do in midweek games. Paul's response was "well if I knew that I would have already given the answer." What kind of coach says that? If fans wanna get mad at PM, get mad at him for that. He went on to say that he thought Doughty would be able to hit and that he only had 1 RBI. He then said that he definitely wasn't blaming Cade. PM was taking the blame by saying that he didn't have the answers.
The worst line I've heard from Paul all year came at the end of the interview when talking about SEC pitching vs what LSU will see from Kentucky. He was mainly talking velocity, but his exact words were "I don't know what they have." How can he not know what the next opponent has for pitching when the series starts tomorrow? Thats terrible.

I don't recall very often Saban shitting on specific players in his weekly radio show.
He does in press conferences after games. He also complains about rules seemingly every off-season when he can't figure out, at the time, how to work around them. He doesn't lose very often, so obviously you don't see it much. He may not mention them specifically by name, but he calls out deficiencies and/or plays in a way where it's obvious what player he's talking about. That kind of goes back to my point that no one remembers or cares what coaches say or who they call out when they're winning at a high level. When they aren't, everything coaches say or don't say is psycho-analyzed.

We have a video coordinator on staff. Every game every SEC team plays is available on video somewhere.
This is unacceptable.

Thanks for the clarification.

Ready to fire Mainieri or just stick with mediocre?

Do we not see how this is way more OK than calling out a player by name in the media?
Again, I'm assuming based on the OP that Maineri called out Beloso and Doughty by name on OTB. It could be incorrect, but it wouldn't be the first time he's done it.

I have an extremely hard time believing that comment. Jamie, the video guy, does a good job of breaking things down and every tendency

That's a little better than what was mentioned in the OP....however the fact that he doesn't know the why of our hitting issues in the SEC is just as bad. I mean Jesus I assume we have tape of every at bat......I assume he could sit down with our hitting coach and look at our hitters tendencies against different types of pitches and pitchers and come up with a practice plan for each to attack those tendencies. I thought that was one of the main things you paid a coach to do...you know COACH!!!

It is and I think it's also unacceptable to go on the radio and say that you don't have the answers to how to get the players to hit better. That's your job and how does that make the players feel when they hear that?

And rightfully so. Beloso shouldn’t have been in the game.
I’ll give you Beloso but Doughty came up with bases loaded and no outs and struck out. That is 100 percent on Doughty and the player in that scenario has to make a play.
LSU probably still loses the game anyway and I agree CPM has done a terrible job this season but the players aren’t making the plays necessary either even when they are in the right places to make those plays and that was my point.
ETA: it was one out with Doughty up.

Not really. When he says "our quarterback did X bad or our middle linebacker needs to do his job," I don't think it really makes a difference whether or not he said their name. It's abundantly clear to everyone listening, including the player, who he is talking about. He also responds to direct questions about specific players and says what they did wrong all the time. 99% of press-conferences, regardless of what coach or the sport, are very similar. We as fans just don't like hearing anything a coach has to say if we're not winning at a high level, which is normal. But as I've said earlier, what he says or doesn't say in these things is the least of his worries at the moment. That has little to nothing to do with why we're last in the SEC, and honestly nothing he says would please the fans at this point. If he calls out players, he's throwing them under the bus. If he said it falls on him, the response would be that they don't want hear him cry about it but to fix it. At this point, the only thing that would be received well would be for him to say "I quit."

Kentucky is the one SEC team that I've watched hardly any of this season. Very little of Mizzou and A&M, too, but I'm very unfamiliar with Kentucky.

I'll give you that that was on him and he should have had a better outcome in that situation....but knowing what you know and considering who was on base and had already made an out in the inning...who else would you have rather had at the plate right there even knowing the K in hindsight???

Paul has always thrown players under the bus in the media. This is nothing new

Don't start 2 dudes with a combined BA less than .275: Safford & Cranford, and stick in players like Arnold and Sanford instead.
