Can't ever go wrong with a courtyard by Marriott.

The up side to that location is that its very close to the stadium, but youll have to Uber everywhere for entertainment whether it be midtown or Galleria. The med center is dead on the weekend

I live in the Houston area. The Courtyard by the Medical Center is very nice.

I had this dilemma myself.. months ago, i booked a room at the new Marriott Marquis downtown for about half the rate that theyre going for now.. then i started reading & hearing about the nightmare that is the light rail getting from the stadium to downtown after the game (which will end close to 1am Sunday), and i remembered how much it sucked trying to get an Uber back to my house in Houston (where i lived at the time) last yr after the bowl game.. so i checked marriott. Com yesterday and i was surprised to see that the Courtyard Marriott Med Center still had rooms available, for less than $150/night(!) Decided to book there and cancel the Marquis; while the Marquis would be better for the weekend overall, walking to the CY after the game will be MUCH better than trying to get back downtown after the game.

Not as long as standing around for hours outside the stadium trying to get back to a distant hotel

I cant remember exactly how far the CY is from NRG, but as the poster above mentioned, the walk should be a fraction of the time it'd take to get downtown.. last yr after the bowl game, we had to walk almost a mile to the Uber pickup spot after the game anyway.. ordinarily I wouldn't even make that walk to the CY at 1am, but I'm pretty sure the streets will be filled with victorious Tiger fans. :-)

That is a lie. Houma's courtyard is absolutely shite.

I booked at the Royal Sonesta Midtown. Is this a nice area? Close to anything?

Also, use promo code FAF when booking at any Royal Sonesta for a big discount. It is the Friends and Family code. They don't ask questions. Anyone can use it.

It's about a 30 minute walk

I just booked there today for $90 /night. Sign up for their free rewards program. Just need an email address and zip code.

Google maps says it's 1.1 miles away. That's like a 20 minute walk. I walk further than that while tailgating.

Also, I called the hotel and they said there is a FREE shuttle that runs to NRG every hour on the hour, starting at 10 AM Saturday morning.

ETA: I tried to take the rail to NRG from Rice Village for the Wisky game and it was a cluster frick. Ended up having to pay for a surge Uber.

Yep.. I've stayed at the CY Arlington a couple times for LSU games in Dallas, and the hotel was an easy 15 or 20 min walk from the stadium, with tons of fans all over.. I think the walk after this game will be similar.

Never heard of it. You sure you're not at the Royal Sonesta by the Galleria?

Arlington is a much safer area so it's a shitty comparison.
