Watching the trophy last night I couldn't help but think, damn he was our coach!

Had he stayed at LSU, would he have had the success he is having at Bama? Did his stint in Miami mold him? He had the same caliber of players here. Would it depend on who Bama hired? They were gunning for Rich Rod right?

I think the NFL definitely made him a better coach, so that's a factor but outside of that, Yes.

The beginning of something great was brewing when Saban left for Miami

He'd have another NC here but I'd say No to your question. Bama provides additional recruiting 'resources' that LSU just doesn't at that level. (both on the books and off)

And to some extent it was sustained

i wish they had hire rich rod. i don't like that guy lol

but of course LSU would have a number of championships. LSU already recruits tremendously now that they are established. with Saban's coaching and recruiting.. LSU would be on a similar path IMO

Exactly. He took his style to the league, realized it was flawed and fixed it.

I think the answer is obviously yes. If Miles can win here now, pretty much anyone can.

LSU was committed to Nick Saban.

Nick Saban was not committed to LSU.

He and his agent were constantly pimping him to NFL teams. There were constant rumors that were having to be addressed.

No doubt he was a great coach. But, he has no one but, himself for leaving LSU.

Dude you've got to move on. It's clear as day now which party really benefited the other. Saban is clearly the GOAT CFB coach and built LSU into what it is today. Rid yourself of the bitterness and just be thankful he was here.

Coaching wise, yes because he's still the same coach.

But Alabama does have better resources (though maybe Saban would have addressed the gap)

But don't sleep on the god-like adulation with which Alabama treats their winning coaches. LSU fans would still be bitching about the Ole Miss loss this morning and that wears on a coach after a while, no matter what they're getting paid. It was annoying Saban back in 2004.

Without Saban, LSU has 1 NC. Be happy he got LSU one and had a hand in getting LSU a second one.

Some people will never accept the fact that LSU fans were somewhat culpable in influencing Saban to leave.

Go back and look at his last year record coaching LSU, doesn't look much different than our last few years. Tough to admit but we are not Alabama and no Saban could duplicate his success here.

So Saban can tolerate Bama fans, and LSU fans ran him off?

The fanbase that tosses a brick through Bill Curry's window for a loss to Ole Miss is a more tolerable fanbase than LSU?

The fanbase that produced the Tree killer????

Come on.....

Saban wanted out almost immediately after getting in BAton Rouge. It was just a stepping stone to him. Every season he was rumored for a job somewhere else even before winning the natty.

As if the Alabama fan base is any more realistic or logical than LSU. I'm sure that holds some weight, but it's not a major deterrent.

Saban gets frustrated with the media and fans in general, but that wasn't going to change with him going anywhere else.
