Could Delpit return punts?

First I'll say, there isn't a chance in hell they do it, but it is an interesting hypothetical.

On Tiger Zone last night (and apparently on Sports Today yesterday as well) Hanagriff brought up putting Delpit back there to return kicks. His reasoning was, against Bama your regular game probably won't be good enough and you will have to do something extreme, and right now all you're getting from Giles is a fair catch and as T-Bob put it a sketchy catch.

Hanagriff basically laid it out that Delpit is talented, has great ball skills, and just has skills that most guys do not have. His words "he's one of the more talented players in the country, put him back there and see if he can make a play."

I don’t disagree with the thought but I’m not sure the Alabama game is when I would want to put a guy back who hasn’t fielded an in game punt in years. I agree it would be nice to have a guy back there that is an actual threat though.

Which, other than maybe TWICE was exactly the right call

Not a single fumble or muff (that I recall)

We all want to see a dynamic return. But, I really have no "fault" to put on Giles. There have been very few opportunities

Is it just me or does Derrick Dillon not make sense there? If he can’t catch in practice I understand it but I watched him in high school catch them and make some huge plays. I’d be willing to venture that he or Kirkin are our fastest guys.

This is stupid! He is too valuable on defense to risk injury.

Bama did this with Eddie Jackson a few years ago. It was awesome when he was scoring TD's... then he broke his leg returning a punt and was out for the year which was not awesome.

Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu returned punts, I don't think the coaching staff would have a problem putting him back there.

But as another poster said, this probably isn't the game to start experimenting with a DB that at best returned punts in high school.

Not yet anyway, his fair catches have been pretty dramatic. I certainly wouldn't say they're "clean."

As much as Giles has been a disappointment is the biggest way, our punt returning doesn't block a single damn gunner, and nobody catching punts would have a chance to return.

I recall Chark or Dural (not sure which) would do that 'fall down while catching the punt thing.

LSU's special teams coach has done a terrific job. He has earned my confidence in his personnel choices.

Damn, I was literally thinking about this. I’m rewatching the state game and thinking how he has great hands. He is also very quick. I could see him returning punts for sure!

Hate to be this guy but hell no,retarded idea to subject one of your best defensive players to injury on a punt return

I thought Tae Provens was shifty and explosive for the spring game and surprised we haven't used him at least in a gadget play of some sort. Here might be some way to get him on the field.

Bet you loved when Pat Pete and the Honey Badger were housing them things every game.

What about Odell on offense?
