Hit enter too fast. But what the title says. Both are athletic looking freaks. In college to some extent both have been all bark no bite... If you recall we kept thinking Hunter would break out. Yet his sophomore season he had 3 sacks.. and his Junior season he had 1.5!!! which as good as he's been in the NFL it's almost hard to believe. Some guys have the athleticism but it just takes them longer to put it all together.

Thats the best case scenario at this point. Mediocre college player who ended up having a great pro career.

Gets to the NFL and maximizes his potential?

Yes it’s very possible.

what's crazy to me is the players that performed well in college and now are in the pros still get so much hype on this board. Like any time OBJ or Devin White has a big play it's posted here immediately.

On the flip side Hunter is an All-Pro type guy and it's like it's forgotten he even went here. No one celebrates him like that. Dude is a BEAST for the Vikings. Already another 8.5 sacks this year and counting

Nah I live in Dallas and never listen to Baton Rouge sports radio. Does he mention that a lot? I mean it's not really a surprise more than one person has made that connection. the similarities are striking

chaisson is actually playing very well this year. lack of sacks is largely attributable to refs not calling holding and offenses getting rid of the ball fast.

but chaisson is much more than a sack master.

Right now he is nothing but hype. Hunter didn't reach his potential until he hit the NFL. To answer question, yes, he can be another Hunter but it also has time to put it together before the NFL.

This is such bullshite. I've seen him get mauled plenty this year his technique is not great. Do you think other great pass rushers in college don't deal with holding every play? This isn't an excuse. He simply is not reaching his potential right now.

Don't know who's responsible but our dline hasn't been good since O took over this team. I think we need a new dline coach. Sorta reminds me of when Miles was here his olines were never good. Same thing here...O's dlines are not good. They will be awful next year unless by some miracle you get impact freshman slicing through lines. None of the players have lived up to their potential since O took over on the line. Even Key found a way to go backwards and he seemed like a guaranteed top 5 pick.

I haven’t really seen any “great pass rushers” in the SEC.

Hunter was a freak. Probably the most wasted talent at LSU for the past 25 years.

People sure do have a short memory on here. Hunter was pretty damn good against the run. Sure he didnt get many sacks but the dude was good

Yes, I think Chassion is a great linebacker. He just needs to add a counter move in pass rushing. He’s excellent against the run and he has some speed to get around the edge.

Blaming the refs is a lame excuse.

not his fault. Chavis used Hunter wrong. He used him to contain - he didn't turn him loose to wreak havoc.

Complete whiff by Chief.

Chaisson is a lot more Mingo right now than hunter.

Both were projects even in the nfl. Landing with the Vikings was huge for Hunter. Didn’t have top 10 pick expectations or investment. Got to sit and learn under Everson griffen and come in just to get sacks his first two years.

Who knows how Mingo’s career turns out if he goes anywhere besides cleveland.

Andre Patterson deserves a lot of credit for helping develop Hunter for the Vikings. I remember reading about how when Hunter was a rookie, Patterson told Hunter that if he didn't use his arms, he'd cut them off.

LINK
quote:

STRENGTHS
Freakish combination of size, athleticism and explosiveness. Has long arms with jarring power behind his hands. When technique is right, he can stack and overpower tackles at point of attack. Fluid and agile in space. Uses length to bat down passes and disrupt the passing lane. Flashes winning spin move in pass rush, but needs to learn to set it up better. Uses arm-over inside move to set up tackles for loss. High-end tackle production for his position. Secondary motor to pursue and speed to chase leads to more tackle opportunities. Lead all SEC defensive linemen in "stuffs" (tackles for no gain or loss of yards) with 17. Active and energetic at all times. Continues to work to improve position vs. run and pass. Off-field character considered "squeaky clean" by NFL scouts. Has speed and agility to become special-teams star early in his career.

WEAKNESSES
Relies heavily on his athleticism and motor over skill and instincts. Pass-rush production doesn't match the traits. Played 80 percent of the defensive snaps in 2014, managing just 1.5 sacks. Doesn't have the upfield burst and bend to turn the corner. Considered a "thinker" as a pass rusher rather than a naturally instinctive reactor. Must show he can effectively counter as a pass rusher. Has winning power in hands, but inconsistent with how he uses them against run and pass. Scouts want to see more competitive nastiness from him.

It takes time and practice to develop pass rush skills and learn how to succeed and it's not always achieved.
