Cecil Collins, pathetic as he is, is arguably the best running back to ever come through LSU.
This.
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought of seriously posting this.
Dude was sickening on and off the field.

Against Miss State: 22 carries for 172 yards.
Against Auburn: 27 carries for 232 yards, 2 TD.
Against Akron: 20 carries for 179 yards, 1 TD.
Against Vanderbilt: 3 carries for 13 yards -- broke his leg and never played again.
Ran for over 3000 yards and 40 TD in one season at Leesville High.
Without a doubt, the most talented player to fizzle out at LSU and the most talented RB I've ever seen play for LSU.

Projecting those first 3 games over a current 12 game regular season would give him over 2,300 yards.

Got like 2 minutes into it. Is that every ball touch Cecil ever had as a Tiger?

Exactly.
I was at the game and I'm still in awe how we lost to Auburn that night despite the Diesel's insane output.
Those were some fun times. After all that misery under Curley, Tiger Stadium was rocking again. We beat #1 Florida the week after Cecil broke his leg. Even though we fell on hard times in '98 and '99, 1997 was the year we finally started to really believe the magic was really back.

Just the State and Auburn games.
Skip to the 9 minute mark and you'll wonder how in the hell we ever lost to Auburn that year.
One man can't win a ballgame but he damn sure tried...

HC Nick Saban
Granted, some of these are not unanimous, but I think they are all consensus picks. Note that none of these selections take away from any of the players not chosen, but these are simply the consensus best players.
Mawae: I moved him to tackle because the line is better with him at tackle and Wilkerson at center than it is with him at center and H. Johnson at tackle. Also, Mawae played tackle for most of his time at LSU anyways and was a 3rd-team All-American there.
WRs: I give the nod to Reed and Clayton because they put up huge seasons with less QB talent than most of the guys with which they were competing.
QB: In the modern era, no LSU QB fits the mold better than Russell.
RB: At the end of the day, winning the Heisman takes the cake.
FB: I know banks was labeled a FB, but Quinn Johnson was an absolute mauler and fits your traditional full back role better than any one else.
Coaches: Although I truly like Miles and Chavis, I think the pure coaching ability has to go to Saban and Pelini.

Wow. I wish that was the worst typo I ever made.

Faneca is a good choice. Tommy Casanova, Kevin Faulk and Billy Cannon should all get some sort of recognition though.

Hands down, without a doubt, close the book and \thread.
The ONLY 3-time All-America at LSU.
Tommy was great!
CANNON-Only Heisman Trophy Winner!Should have been two time winner.

This. Best WR to ever play at LSU.

Corey Webster. Best corner I saw here before PP7
I think it could be argued that Webster was a better cornerback than PP. PP was the better athlete, but not by a wide margin. Webster played more effectively (IMHO) as a defender than PP.
PP was a better return guy than Webster, but purely as a college CB, I would give Webster the nod.
If PP had come back as a senior and shown improvement, he may have moved past Webster...

that would be true if he wasn't a slot back. WR an argument could be made for Eric Martin, Wendell Davis or Andy Hamilton.
As far as a career, Jerry Stovall was a better back than reed FWIW.

Faneca is a good choice
Faneca might have been the best to ever play at LSU period. This is not taking anything away from other stars at other positions. Look at Faulk's production the season after Faneca left for the draft. Remember Faneca only played 3 years.
Another solid lineman that was absolutely outstanding was Andolsek. Truely believe that he would have contributed to Barry staying in the NFL and owning every rushing record instead of retiring so early.
