I hope those who attended enjoyed the event!
Well, I paid to attend but after waiting in line for what seemed like forever to get in, I left. My friends who did make it in said there was no place to sit. So I'm glad you got my $200 but I'm not real happy about it

Wow. Just wow. I'm sorry, and I have nothing to do with the event or the Houston LSU Alumni Association. That's just ridiculous.

sorry but the jambalaya was gross
and the beer was expensive

. I can assure you nobody from the chapter is concerned about what a dozen or so fools who bitch about everything have to say! Very glad to you and so many enjoyed the time! Delusional was the perfect word you used! I prefer to say clueless to reality!
As someone has already pointed out, you really aren't doing your chapter any favors by castigating those of us who weren't pleased with the experience (or lack thereof).

Good synopsis and I'm sure everyone on here understands that your hands were tied. However, your colleague spouting off insults because some on here spoke their opinion about the event is not putting your association in the best of lights.
Had he come on here and presented what you laid out like you did, this thread might have turned out differently; calling everyone idiots and dumbasses only stoked the fire.
What he said

That's pathetic. The Houston Alumni chapter should be ashamed.
I wonder what Aramark's cut of the ~$275,000 in ticket sales was.

You know, after that debacle, I just wrote it off as a loss and lesson learned. I kept telling myself it was a donation to an LSU alumni association, no biggie, and they honestly probably just planned poorly and couldn't turn down the requests for the tickets, even though it was well overbooked. I get it, they needed to make as much money as possible.
But then I saw the OP actually starting a thread congratulating themselves for this? I had to say something.

Don't blame you there. Some of our friends went to it, and are embarrassed they spent the money.
I have kids, so we spent the day around Houston in the Museum District and the zoo, etc. The kids loved that butterfly place. We enjoyed ourselves, and the city.
We were then thinking about stopping by the tailgate, luckily I read a few text messages, and we changed course and hit up Luigi's Pizzeria.

I know the people behind these things try incredibly hard to make these things a success but they're just always a letdown and not worth it.
You had a/c? Great, I had a/c at the bar I was at in midtown too.
You were surrounded by other LSU fans? Wow, me too, all over the place.
You had tv's to watch games? That's cool. So did the bar.
You had music? So did the bar.
Your event cost an additional $50 on top of what I would have spent drinking. I would have received a shitty bbq sandwich or jambalaya with toppings (wtf?) and then stand in long arse lines to get a drink? None of which I had to do at the bar. Just saying.

I will never make this mistake again. I regret going. I had a horrible time.

And, I'm assuming, you didn't have to sit on a concrete floor to enjoy your food and beverages. (to be fair, if you arrived early enough, you did have a wall to lean back on while sitting on the floor)

Had a very comfortable seat actually on some cabana type thing out on the patio of the bar. Was pretty nice.
That's a shame you missed out on that nice wall seat though!

Sorry you had a bad time, Fes. That's rough.

I didn't go to this but the lines were long and the food was shitty.

I'm not sure who's defending the LSU Houston Chapter. I planned the event and my handle on here expresses just that! Please do not associate anyone to the LSU Houston Chapter making posts on this or any other thread unless my name is attached. I'm hear to learn and make sure that we don't, if given the chance, make the same mistakes. I can tell you this.....It won't be at a place where my hands are tied contractually. We looked at several locations but kept it there due to the proximity of the game. I appreciate all the feedback. I will tell everyone here that the majority of the problems were ones that I personally warned the caterer of repeatedly. LSU Houston alumni members were not serving the drinks (by law we aren't allowed) and we couldn't fix the restrooms. We tried to order more tables but the venue didn't have any left! The issues being talked about here are very valid! Thank you for the feedback and I promise I will try and do it better next time. It doesn't hurt my feelings at all that some are upset. With a crowd that size there will be those that have something to say. To me....it's all information for an opportunity for improvement. AND if anyone wants to throw the next 5000+ tailgate hit me up! I'll be happy to tell you where I went wrong. Thanks again for the comments. Cheers everyone! And hey....at least we all walk away with a Victory! LSU 1-0!

Thanks Sabi. The floor sitting was by far the worst part about it. The food was meh, but I expected as much when buying the ticket because I knew it was being provided by Aramark, or whatever. The BBQ sandwich was actually ok, but you had to fix it yourself, then carry plate and fix a cup of tea while waiting in line, all while holding everything. Then, sit on the floor with it all.
The band playing pre-game was excellent, and BTE was excellent as well. It being located across the street from the stadium was a big plus as well. They just way, way oversold. And for $50, you should have at least expected a folding chair to sit and eat, and the opportunity to go back for seconds over the course of 4 hours, or try something different from the selection.

I considered going to the tailgate months back but decided not to as my friends couldn't all decide what to do and I don't like being confined in one place. I do commend you for coming on here and taking the criticism and it looks like you've learned from it. I'm sure if there's a next one, it'll be much better.
ETA: if that LSUstephen17 a-hole is part of the Houston Alumni Assocaition, please kick his arse and ban him from your group.

I admire you for holding it and for learning from it. Great post.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I do commend LSUHoustonTailgate for stepping up to the plate and acknowledging mistakes were made and soliciting feedback on how to make it better the next time.
