Here is some insane trivia

Skip Took over at LSU in 1984

his first HC job,

Paul took over at Air Force only 5 years later in 1989.

That means that Mainieri was a head coach before Skip. He started at St Thomas in 1983. While NAIA now, they were NCAA Division 2 at the time.

Basically none of those guys fit that description

the biggest difference is PM's coaches had some kind of ties to him with all the former Notre Dame or LSU guys
when he went outside the box the one time with Cannizaro it seemed to work

when jay needs an assistant he finds the best man for the job and coaches that bring new ways of doing things within Jay's structure set up

Looking into the stats I get even more frustrated. We hit 48 home runs in 64 games in 2018. 48. Not a single player with double digit HR. And before you say it was a down year offensively, we had a team ERA of 4,87, compared to last year (a historically offensive season) we had a team ERA of 4.36.

PM was very lucky that COVID shielded the world from seeing that '20 team. Before conference play, we had a team BA of .253 and OBP of .358. team OPS of .741. 2 qualified guys had OPS over .900 (5 on last year's team).

yeah the core of the '23 natty team was all CPM's recruits, but CJJ had to go get Skenes, Tanks, and Hurd to get us the top level talent to make the run we did.

Without Skenes and Tanks, we probably don't make it to Omaha bc our weekend rotation would have been Floyd, Hurd, and Blake Money.

I may have been a little hyperbolic, as that was a good lineup, but Milazzo and Bianco fit that bill, minus the contact piece. The PM rosters from 18-20 really rubbed me the wrong way.

Still, he failed to put together a competent pitching staff with that offense. His inability to pair good staffs with good lineups his last few years were mind numbing.

Skenes had a Ben McDonald effect on the program
Without Skenes dominating every opening game that team would not have won the natty

Milazzo was a converted shortstop? Bianco also wasn't small. He was 6'0" 205

He overstayed his welcome. He had a great run from 2008 until about 2015 but by 2021, it was past time for him to go.

He took LSU to the CWS title game in 2017, two years after your ‘great run’. Even ignoramuses can post here.

I specifically referred to PM turning shortstops into corner guys (IF/OF), not catchers. Milazzo was a small catcher who struggled to put the ball in play.

I met Bianco. He was not 6'0. He was a poor hitting righty with more swing and miss than anyone I've ever seen, a shockingly weak arm, and while he could play every position, he wasn't good at any of them.

Didn't we beat The Ducks in Eugene, and make a superregional his last season

I miss that guy. We'll never have a better coach in BR

The core you refer to was 6 of the top 9 hitters and the best defensive catcher. Pretty dam good core.

Well none of that fits the mold of what you said Mainieri exclusively recruited either. You're just repeating a tired rant narrative that was true for maybe a couple seasons. Kind of like people say, every year, our team can't hit left handed pitching.

I think most rant narratives are retarded.

PM's teams struggling more offensively at the end of his tenure can be backed up by statistics. Statistically, the '17 team wasn't even great offensively. They were solid.

The '21 team was the best offensive team since '15, and that can largely be attributed to COVID allowing Dylan Crews to get to campus.

The '18-'20 teams are seared into my brain. Infield of Hal Hughs, Brandt Broussard, Jake Slaughter, and Austin Bain will be there forever. One of those positions is excusable, seeing as Smith was hurt pretty much all year, but overall LSU should never have the entire infield be that weak.

The next year was better, but Hughes and Broussard combined for 88 starts and 314 at bats.... That cannot happen at LSU.
