So if we use the same logic with Saban, then everything he is doing this year is null and void since this is his 3rd year at Bama.

yeah and who recruited arenas? SHULA.

We should scrap saban' first three seasons at LSU also. If you ask anyone, dinardo started bringing talent in before nick got here.

I dont know if he will ever out coach him, but there will be times where we have more experienced talent than Bama. That's all it takes sometimes. I still say we have a shot at the west next yr. It is the end of the season and 10 wins was realistic, but getting to Atl was not.

You are right bout one thing. 51 wins in 5 yrs is above average for LSU football coaches in the past 100+ yrs of LSU football....wayyyyyyyyyy above average.

Ok, but still he had one great season at LSU. We won the sec with him as a 3 loss team. Bama will not go undefeated yr in and yr out. They were obviously the best team in the sec THIS yr. He still lost to ULM and UAB.

He lost to ULM and UAB while in his first season after replacing coaches that got fired.

When Saban took over at LSU, he was well respected in the coaching circles, but not as well known to all of the high school kids in the South. He won 2 SEC titles and a National Championship at LSU.

When Saban took over at Alabama, every recruit from the South new who he was and that he was a winner. He has now won 24 straight regular season games and is on his way to a SEC Title and a National Title. He's not about to leave Bama, and he is loading up on recruiting every year.

Saban's talent that he left at LSU far superior to the talent that Shula left at Alabama. Do you need more proof. Wait two more years. I will bet my house that Saban does not lose 8 SEC games in the next 2 years, which is what Miles has done now that the program is more his than ever before.

ok and LSU hasnt? We had nfl talent on our roster before he got here. Im not backing Les, but im not about to put sabans balls in my mouth like most people. For example there was a thread started asking over under on how many west titles we win the next 10 yrs. A couple people were saying 0. That is just stupid. It really doesnt matter who our coach is then, we will never beat bama.

i agree choupique, but without arenas they are not 12-0. Just like without a decent coach we were not winning 10 games in 05, 06, 07

2008 was not 2nd place in the West, and 2009 needed an Egg Bowl upset for the Tigers to finish 2nd in the West. So even those propping Miles up shouldn't be able to say this.
A lot of games were close this year and could have went either way..Bama got lucky as LSU did in 07.
To think any team will form a dynasty in the SEC and dominate ever year is just stupid.

Florida proved that by getting their asses handed to them by a inferior offense in the SECCG this year.

Just as Florida showed they were human so will Bama in the next couple of years.

The SEC is the toughest conference for a reason, this is where great teams shine and average teams look pathetic.
The Bowl games usually attest to that.

Theres a reason the SEC Champion usually plays for the National Championship.

I am pleased that LSU played decent this year despite the young QB and new DC.
Many people here figured 4-5 losses.
I'll take a 9-3 record with the issues this team had coming off a dismal season last year.

I love these Tigers.
Can't wait to see what they do in the next few years with the weapons they have aquired.

Real fans pull for their team even in bad times.

Let's kick some Penn State arse!!!

We are not even in bad times rt now. I never gave up on LSU growing up and never gave up on the Saints.

I was at every home game this year from an hour before game time until after the alma mater was sung. I want them to win every game. But I also see what's going on at other SEC schools. It was rightly mentioned that the SEC is a very tough conference to dominate. So that means that if LSU really wants to be great in football, they have to do everything they can (pay for the best coaches). Ane the original point of this thread is that the administration did not do that. They went bargain shopping. Then they got trapped into an iron clad contract giving Les Miles roll-over years for winning as few as 8 games a year. His buyout is ridiculous. Yet, he is the punchline for all jokes involving clock management.

Sorry my comprehension skills are minimal.
So hiring Miles was bargain shopping?

Who else was out there at the time that would have done better in your opinion?

Be honest..Do you think the 8 win seasons were the reason for the contract extension?

I'd say Les Miles is smarter than we think then.
You cant blame him if LSU went for that.

On the positive side Les Miles brought honesty and integrity with him. As much as many here would like to paint him as a villian, he isnt.
He's a decent man outside the stadium and that cant hurt LSU in the long run.

I'm happy to be 9-3 this year considering our team wasnt in perfect shape with position issues and injuries and coaching cf's.

I'd take the state LSU is in right now compared to 2/3's of the rest of the SEC.

It kills me how this only applies to Miles and not Saban. Why is it that the only reason Miles won was with "Saban's players" but Saban's wins are his alone, not with Shula's players. If this is the case then it is true of ALL coaches going into a program. You can't selectively use this argument to your advantage.

You still have not named one coach that in your opinion we should/could have hired that has a better record than Miles. (Besides Meyer who has been riding the Tebow gravy train for four years now)

Skip Bertman publically stated that they would not be paying "Nick Saban-type money" while searching for a new coach. Mark Emmert rocked the college football world by making Saban the 3rd highest paid coach in the country before he ever stepped foot on campus. Then, when the program is set up for continued success, the new administration went penny-pinching.

LSU did not give themselves the best chance to find the best coach interested. Also, Bertman got mad at Jack Del Rio because there was a clause in his contract with the Jags that stated he could be fired for speaking with others about job openings while the season was still going. Therefore, Skip didn't want to wait an extra 3 days for Del Rio.

Miles is a great guy, nobody denies that. But are you saying that Bama fans are actually upset deep down inside because Nick Saban isn't much of a people person?
