I wouldn't worry about that group
Mike isn't going anywhere
they just want to piss people off

So are they suggesting we release Mike into the wild? Because releasing an animal into the wild after it has been in captivity throughout its entire life would be the most inhumane thing one could do, in my opinion.

Mike lives and eats better than a good % of Baton Rouge.
He will never be released into the wild. It's either in his custom-made mansion of a habitat or a zoo. If you turn him out in the wild he will die. He was bred in captivity and lived his whole life in captivity.

Geez!!! Calm down pal. I was exaggerating a little and playing on the "treat him humanely" part of the OP. Do I think we treat Mike too well? No. But come on. Treat him humanely? What does that mean?

They wouldn't answer that question when i posited it. They only kept going on about how LSU is a terrible institution yada yada

I would like to see them put their money where their mouths are and try and break him out.
I think he could kill 12 before they realized he is a fricking monster who doesn't give a frick how much they love him or protest about his 'terrible' conditions.
These retards realize he wasn't captured in the wilds of India, right?

Or at least give Mike a laptop with an internet connection so he can fap.
His paws are too big to use a mouse, I think. Maybe some student interns can find a few old National Geographic magazines with stories on tigers, and they can go to Kinko's to blow up the pics of female tigers
Feel free to share this with the Facebook group. I'm sure this will help settle everything.

what i wrote in response to him being forced into the trailer to be "paraded" around:
hope i represented the rant well

i agree with scott. obviously he does not hate being taken around in a trailer since he walks into the trailer by himself frequently for games. sure he may be baited, but im sure tigers are very bright animals and learn from bad experiences and not fall for the bait twice if they did not like the consequence of the bait. and trust me, if a quarter ton tiger did not want to walk into a trailer, there would be no way to force him in without inducing sleep.
hope i represented the rant well

As for the Mike needs a female companion. If I recall correctly when Mike V...or maybe Mike IV was going down, it was suggested we breed Mike. The Vet school said if a female was introduced in the cage with him, they would fight and their mating process would likely do more harm than good.
This. Tigers are solitary animals anyway, plus the current Mike is a mixed breed who can't be used for population conservation.
It's not like he's in a 5x10' cage either.

These people are in the same category as the people who picket at soldiers' funerals. LSU's mascots live a lot longer than the average tiger in a zoo.
Mike has it made.
Mike has it made.

On a serious note, what happens to "Mike" in old age? Does he go to the Baton Rouge zoo? The big cat sanctuary in Florida? If I remember correctly, very few, if any, "Mikes" spend their last years on campus

You can't reason with a liberal

Just ask them how it's any different than a zoo
I love Mike but he wouldn't last a day in the wild. He'd prolly be pretty upset to leave what has become his home to go anywhere else.

I believe there is a phase-out plan in place for when they begin to reach old age, which includes moving them off campus. Mike V died on campus, but I remember seeing Mike IV at the Baton Rouge zoo as a kid.

Seriously? It means to treat him humanely.
Ever heard of the Humane Society?

Why would you try to have an intellectual conversation with these people

I guess those folks never heard of Darrel:

Mike and Darrel again.
And again
And yet again
And, contrary to the hippie report, he does have rocks to climb on and chase Darrel around.

I'm 99% positive that if we "freed" Mike (opened up his cage) he would not move at all or give any fricks.
If we actually forced him out (to who the frick knows where) he would die since he's never had to feed himself.
Also I would make a handsome wager that if you put Mike on the Parade ground he would probably just run back over to his cage as soon as he got hungry
