Judging by tonight, his backup is probably better

If it's broken how long of a recovery is that?

It takes a while for a collar bone to heal. Usually requires surgery and to be wired together I think.

He’s been a bust anyway and the freshman deserves more time

He won’t be able to sustain any contact for 6 weeks if cracked

Is he who dropped a wide open TD?

If you don’t fix it, it heals without surgery in 12 weeks. If you treat it with plate and screws, the bone still takes 12 weeks to heal but it has the benefit of the plate and screws helping to hold it together so when it’s kind of healed about 6 weeks after surgery + the rigidity of the plate you can probably play.
That said, there is a spectrum of aggressiveness with respect to players and surgeons willingness to take on risk. Some would say you can go back 6 weeks post op, some 12 weeks post op. And honestly 2 weeks post op sometimes a person can be looking pretty good after clavicle ORIF and if they are willing to take on some risk of it falling apart and needing revision surgery they may be able to go.
