Story | Paul Mainieri spent his Easter planning one final tweak for the stretch run.
Cole Henry was moving up to Friday night and Zack Hess was going to the bullpen.
That's all on hold now as Henry will miss the Alabama series with elbow soreness
Paul Mainieri thinks it could be just simple fatigue for Cole Henry.
He’ll throw some this weekend on his own and could return to the rotation next weekend#

Doesn't sound major. If he misses next weekend too it might become an issue.

Lots of sarcastic posts on both sides of the argument, but at some point we need to evaluate what we are doing in terms of our conditioning, bullpen work, etc.
To continue to stay the course with these results and insist “that’s just baseball” seems like a very lazy and costly approach.

So that was decided before maceaux had a good outing and after Hilliard got shwacked by Florida. Interesting

I was at that series. Believe that was the series where Brian Winders threw a 1 or 2 hitter against Ole Miss, and I believe the no-no was broken up by Baton Rouge turncoat David Delucci hitting a home run.
Yes about Winders and the no-hitter. Negative on Delucci hitting it though. It was some other random dude. LSU ended up winning 2-1.

Well, if it's a little arm soreness it's not anything to worry about. All pitchers get some soreness during a season.
A large part of the rash of arm injuries today is that kids are absolutely overworked before they graduate HS with travel ball and year around practices.

I mentioned earlier that Kevin Abel is out for Oregon St. That marks 2 years in a row that their ace (not that guy, they had someone better) went down with TJ. And their pitching coach is widely considered to be one of the top pitching coaches in college baseball.
Oh for sure, he was abused last year.
quote:
He threw a total of 247 pitches during that six-day span.
– 95 pitches in a win over Mississippi State on Saturday, June 23 to reach the CWS finals against Arkansas
– 23 pitches during an inning of relief against Arkansas on Wednesday, June 27 to keep it a 1-run game
– 129 pitches in shutout win over Arkansas on Thursday, June 28
He also threw 58 pitches in 4 innings of relief, picking up a win over Washington on June 18. All told, he pitched 21 innings and threw 305 pitches over four appearances at the College World Series, all in an 11-day span. That’s simply overuse.

The Rant's Lord and Savior, Andy C, had, I believe, NINE pitchers out as MSU headed into the 2017 postseason.
Pitchers all around are getting hurt, especially younger ones.
LSU has more than their fair share, yes. Most schools have some, not as many this year as we have this year. Sometimes, you get a couple of extra slaps from the injury stick. Look at the Atlanta Falcons in 2018.
What concerns me, though, is the overall level of pitching injuries seems to be increasing, across college baseball, from even 10 years ago until now.
SOMETHING is wrong. Whether it's overuse in travel ball and high school, poor mechanics, throwing faster, poor diet, improper coaching and conditioning, etc, something is absolutely happening. And it's affecting the entire game, not just LSU.
Is it roster limits? Do we need more than 35 kids on the roster?
Do we need to play fewer games?

ETA: More
Full disclosure: I’d done some research thinking Cole Henry was moving up to Friday night. Compared his first numbers through six SEC starts to some of the best arms #LSU has had under Paul Mainieri

throwing faster,
Im in the camp that this is the biggest culprit. Velocity is preached non stop at the youth level and these kids are pushing their arms past their physical limits.

What are those numbers referring to?

Only had about 12 guys on the roster that weren’t vomiting/diarrhea.
Ehh, just slide on their butts and nobody'll be the wiser. Rub up against the basemen so they'll be full blown sick during the rubber game.
