I would venture to say that the talent gap b/w LSU's remaining pitchers come Sunday and the rest of the field is even greater than the talent gap b/w LSU's number 1 & 2 and the field's 1/2. That's how much the drop off in their pitching will be. It's a clear advantage all the way through throwing Eades, Nola and then Bonvillian/pen.

...and there is a huge advantage on the mound against Jackson St., plus a huge advantage offensively, and a huge advantage defensively.

Did LSU belong in the tournament in 2009 when Southern led for most of the game?

And, we are choosing to throw our best pitching against Jackson St.

Nola is the best.

I don't think PM wants to get cute though. He's looking at the guarantee win Friday+Saturday because he knows LSU's bullpen will still overwhelm ULL on Sunday/Monday. LSU has already saw some of those pitchers this year and we pretty much destroyed ULL. Game 3 for use would likely be us seeing that midweek starter who we crushed.

Nobody wants to be in the losers bracket. It's smarter to play for the near guarantee win than gambling and ending up losing 1.

I still don't think we see ULL all weekend.

That would be pretty funny but Sam-Houston has a decent little club. Wouldn't shock me.

Is ULL pitching their ace Saturday? That would be funny to see it backfire.

Let me ask you this. What are the chances that LSU wins the regional after losing the first game vs winning the first game?

If we have Eades still unused, we still have a good shot.
Presumably, Nola (vs. SHSU) and then you can pitch anyone vs. Jackson St. That would get us to Sunday and we would still have Eades.

Obviously, it helps to win game 1. But, how much risk are we really taking? We've won 34 straight midweek games.

Except not, best pitching would still be against ULL or SHSU.

So, you think Eades is not our 2nd best starter. Is that what you are saying?

Well, to be fair, we actually are throwing our "best" pitching against ULL on Saturday.

Try to keep up JP. Obviously, I'm comparing the Jackson St. game to the Sunday/Monday ULL games. Nola on Saturday was never in question.

Except this isn't a midweek game. You're getting Jackson's and ULLs aces. And their team is looking to knock LSU down in the playoffs.

So, like JP, you are talking about game 2?

My god, do you really not understand the argument?

The question is whether or not we use Eades against Jackson St. or against ULL on Sun/Mon.

Nobody is questioning that Nola is our best.

Oh I know, I was just making a sarcastic dig.....yu want our best pitching against ULL, and that's what we've got lined up. Whoever gets back out of the losers bracket Sunday - maybe it's ULL, maybe it's not - isn't gonna have anything comparable on the mound to what we've got on the mound, even with our staff by committee.

Personally, at this point, I would say I don't necessarily trust Eases anymore than some of the other guys (not less trust in Eades, but not necessarily more). Has he had a great year? Sure, but I dont know that I agree that he is leaps and bounds our #2 pitcher. Has he been in that slot most of the year? Sure, but I've got confidence in The other guys as well.

In no other game in this regional will LSU have more of an advantage than we have against Jackson St. tomorrow...even if we don't throw Eades.

If you want to disagree with that, go ahead.

We've got to beat ULL twice(or SHSU). The opponent doesn't matter. I want our best pitchers pitching Sat and Sun.
