The media area was terrible. It still is, but it looks better now because he made us paint and put new chairs atleast. He will get what he wants.
Pretty sure the media is getting moving into the upper deck this coming season.

we absoutely need a facility like the Houston Cougars have. The PMAC is a dump. Take the damn purple and gold glasses off. Get it built. Boot up!

Bull shite.
Indiana, Duke, Kansas, UCLA in old (and though updated) relatively antiquated arenas. If the program is good enough, people will pack it out.
No question the PMAC is outdated from a visual perspective (70's utilitarian style). And the interior could be more modernized. But a total teardown/rebuild is unnecessary. The PMAC was a madhouse in the 80's and could be again if (1) Wade continues to win and (2) LSU fans find the ability to care for more than one sport at a time)
Now, adding on to the practice facility is feasible. As well as upgrading some of the facilities. But a new arena isn't an absolute necessity

Wade needs to take the program to the next level before he can make ultimatums like that. We're good but not elite yet

It is hilarious how so many posters in this thread have just taken the OP's words as truth. Wade has not made any public statements or been quoted as saying he has given an "ultimatum" or even demanded that LSU do anything, let alone remodel the PMAC or build a new arena.
He has made no bones about the fact of what he believes needs improvement and has voiced that publicly, which he has every right to do and should do as an advocate for his program. And yes, some of those statements and improvements have been about the basketball ops facility and the PMAC. But stating what he believes needs to be improved does not equate to making demands, threats, or ultimatums. I'm sure Wade, better than anyone, understands his situation and position within the hierarchy of LSU athletics.
And while LSU may not be elite, yet; he has certainly proven that he has the program on the right track and is doing things to put it at an elite status. But you are creating a chicken and egg situation with your statements by saying the program has to be elite before receiving any needed improvements. When in fact it may very well be more beneficial to make the improvements first which could be the tipping point needed to boost the program to elite level. Have you ever thought of that?

We need to build a new arena for LSU baketball, not for Will Wade. Truth is, we do not know if Wade will survive NCAA investigations and/or charges.

What is the Parker Coliseum used for these days? Or build a new arena in South Stadium Parking (including a multi level parking garage) Is there any reason not to demolish Parker and build a new arena in that location with a parking garage in the design...look around at some of the other areas in the SEC, there are some neat features that could be incorporated...

Parker belongs to the LSU Ag Center. It is not heavily used these days. They still host a handful of livestock/horse shows and I believe they have a big horticulture show each year in there; or at least they once did and I assume still do. There are also a few offices in there for some Ag Center staff. And if B&B is still doing the student rodeo, then they have that in there too. But it seems as though I heard that they can't do that event anymore.
I can't find anything online to verify this, but I recall hearing one time while I was in school that it was placed on the historical registry, which would prevent having it demolished. It would also limit what renovations you could even make to it. But again, I'm not positive that is the case as I can't seem to find proof of that.

VCU built a $25 million Basketball Development Center that just opened a couple of years ago. Practice facility. Weights. Cardio. Training. Rehab. Study Hall. Dining hall. Basketball offices. Locker room. This facility is for both the men and women. Identical facilities for both. The players can do everything there except sleep and attend classes. The Development Center is about 100 feet from the Basketball Arena which is 20 years old and has had some recent upgrades. Its half the size of the PMAC and is full for almost every game.

The sanctions, if they come, could follow Wade to a new school. The NCAA can penalize both the school and the coach. They suspended Pitino for 5 games. He was later removed by Louisville administration. If LSU gets sanctions Wade will likely not walk away scott free.

Wade loves LSU. He left a state of the art $25 million Basketball Development Center at VCU that was brand new. Sold out arena for every game. Excellent facilities. He recognized LSU as a sleeping giant. He isn't gonna leave if LSU doesn't build a new arena. Thats just not his style. He will ask for improvements especially with the practice facility. He is not an ultimatum type guy. Thats just not his personna.

I went to the LSU game this year at vcu. I don't know a thing about their training center or basketball practice facility, but that arena is a DUMP, and is in a HORRIBLE part of town. I was in shock when we got there. It looked like the old Boston Garden, but not as nice. I googled to find out the year built when I got there, and couldn't believe it opened in 1999. They do sell out every game, but it only holds 6500.
I live near Old Dominion U, and their arena was built in 2001 and looks light years better than vcu. ODU's arena is actually a little nicer than ours is, but only holds about 9500.

The practice facility improvement needs to happen. This is not a Wade issue. It is a recruiting and player improvement issue. When we compare our facility to many of our adversaries, we may lose out on some of the players that we are close to signing.
Although the PMAC could definitely use some updating (or replacement) eventually, the improvement to the practice facility is the most pressing issue. It is also the easier and cheaper to accomplish!

Eh. I've been to several games there. For the size of the athletic program, it's fine. But yes, it's really no better than a glorified high school gym in some respects. BUT they always pack the house, the bleachers are closer to the floor, and everything is down low on a single level, which all adds to the good atmosphere they have there. IMO they are fun games to attend. The practice facilities are nice there as well.
VCU's an urban campus. Where the arena is located on broad street is meh, and to the north of that is sketchy. But going south more towards the river, campus, etc. is nicer/more things to do.
---
Basically just saying that you don't have to have the largest or best arena to have a good atmosphere, see cameron indoor, or places like VCU that still have a good atmosphere.
Maybe we'll get back to the deaf dome with the current PMAC. But the larger capacity and the more horizontal/rounded designed, as opposed to vertical/more boxed in design, just has a more pronounced affect when it's not packed.
