I think it’s more of the principle to let players who are playing where the jackets that are available than a “rule”. shite if I was playing and wanted a jacket but there was none left because someone who isn’t dressed out is wearing one I’d be pissed. And I’d want the coach to stand up for me like Applewhite did, regardless of who it was.

Ed Oliver was not dressed out for their game tonight vs Tulane. While on the sidelines during the game, he took one of the big jackets that are designed to go over shoulder pads and was wearing it. It looked like one of the trainers was telling him to take it off to give to players who are playing and it looked like he was laughing him off and refusing.

So Applewhite sees this happening and comes up behind Oliver and starts taking the jacket off for him and says take it off. So then while going back to the locker room at half the camera shows Oliver trying to go after Applewhite and they are jawing back and forth and Oliver is doing this kind of “hold me back bro” thing like he was trying to fight Applewhite.

ESPN made a huge deal out of it because that was basically the only story line the entire game, haha.

A real coach wouldn't be paying attention to such frivolous things like who is wearing a jacket

Disagree. The best coaches have the best attention to detail within every aspect of their program.

Not about jackets

I can 100% say. Saban, Dabo etc... Would not give a damn about who is wearing a jacket.

Mainly because it would be enough to go around.

Worrying about a player wearing a jacket is wasted energy. And can be applied to actually coaching.

Its like worrying about who is wearing a damn wrist band or what type of face-mask you like.

Agree 100% . That was just a weak show of power by Applewhite because that is the only thing about Ed he could control at that moment.

If some equip. manager told Saban during a game that someone was wearing the wrong jacket that equip manager is the one who'd get chewed out. Additionally, doing that to a local player who's their biggest recruit/player in 30 years is just dumb. Oliver's the face of the #HTownTakeover they've been selling so how's it going go for Applewhite if he's shunning Oliver out the door and Oliver starts badmouthing him.
A smarter coach just waits until they're in the locker room to handle that to avoid a scene.

He was probably tired of hearing the bullshite, and just wanted to put an end to the distraction.

Most players wouldn't act like a brat over such frivolous things like his coach taking a jacket from him.

Wow. Some of you dumbfricks just can't stand coach O for some reason or another. That's what makes his success even more enjoyable, bc we get to watch you figs squirm. Awesome.

The problem was there were limited number of jackets available. The rule was, because of the limitation, the jackets were for playing players only. And that rule makes sense. Why anyone would have a problem with the rule and MA enforcing it is beyond me. Oliver was never playing last night. He should have dressed accordingly instead of acting entitled to break the team rule because he is a primadonna five star player.

Agreed.

I am with the coach on this one.

Player should have listened and when he didn't.. the coach stepped in to get control of the situation?

Unless I am misunderstanding..

John Wooden is the greatest coach in the history of coaches. 10 national titles in 12 seasons. Seven titles in a row. Four undefeated seasons. The first thing he did at the first practice of every season was teach his players the correct way to put on their socks.

I watched the video.

I have no idea how people are hating on Applewhite for this.

It's a rule, whether a team rule or NCAA rule, and the coach simply went over to have him remove it.. The player loses his shiii and yall fault the coach.. who continued to display poise during the entire altercation.. He kept his cool and his team won big.

I agree. No way Ed would have a team that could score 48 on Tulane.

I can 100% say Saban would rip his fricking head off for acting like that.

My question is if Oliver was playing, he would have a jacket. Who would have been w/o a jacket?

No decent person would. Sad Oliver wasted his college career at that crap hole.
that's why you don't commit to coaches. Not only did Herman leave, he went there or one of the reasons he went there was because Herman hired one of his HS coaches. Which, I wonder if he's even still there with the turnover after Herman left.
