I wouldnt put much into that. Seems every year certain players will get hyped up in the off season....

......and then they dont even play.

Coach speak

There is absolutely no earthly possibility we are better on defense right NOW, losing what we lost, with no Spring, and 4 weeks into fall practice than we were at the end of last year when the defense was destroying teams like UGA, Oklahoma, and Clemson.

"Better" is probably relative. I suspect it looks better because O is happier with the DL is being turned loose to rush the QB...which is what O has ALWAYS coached and recruited for, vs. a DL that was more of hole-pluggers and block eaters. He's seeing the DL do what he really wants them to do for the first time since he's been HC

Well, this is rather surprising, given how the defense played over the final three games of our undefeated national championship season. If that statement is accurate, our defense should be dominant.

Please don't believe that. Our defense over the last 4 games was crazy. In those 4 games that included two top 5 offenses, LSU gave up an average of 293 yards (would be good for 8th all year average), 4.6 yards per play (would be good for 6th all year average), 17.5 points (would be good for 11th all year average), 3.25 sacks (would be good for 11th all year average), 1.5 ints (would be good for 2nd all year average).

So unless O means we are going to be better than a top 10 defense (top 5?), he's hyping it up for the fans.

That or he's so entrenched in the 4-3 "attacking" defense that he can't accept anything else, like Miles refusing to believe that a passing offense could be as good as his "offense".

If the defense sucks this year, this quote will be quite telling. But Pelini has always had elite defenses, so I'm optimistic.

I think orgeron just likes this less complicated, attacking 4-3 more than Arandas style with a ton of looks out of the 3-4 that might play more contain and gap assignment than nose down attacking QB.

Excited to see it. Still really nervous about DE.

Orgeron likes to take jabs at Aranda when he can too. I don’t see how defense is that much better considering what all we lost and the lack of depth up front. Might be more of a reflection of our offense taking longer to come together up front than anything.

You don’t see how our defense is that much better? Here’s how, Aranda was a shitty DC and Pelini isn’t. Done.

Sounds like O has been listing to BB.

I hope the country keeps sleeping on LSU this year.

Dave is a great DC, but let's be honest, Pelini is a cut above.

I loved Pelini's defenses for the most part. I'm happy he's a Tiger again.

For price to get 77 on 6 carries is impressive.

Yes..but not for the defense. The getting excited for any stat against our own players is kinda silly

So did I miss something?

Did shelvin and coach O have a fight or something? Why hasn't he been in contact with his coach? I know there are a lot of players but figured they would shoot the shite every once in a while

Shelvin is a 3-4 nose, and he’s a nice fit there. Moving to the 4-3 would expose him as out of shape after a few series. I think he saw that, and opted out, thinking last years memory will get him into the draft, and not risk getting exposed. Just hypothetical, of course.

They showed him on 3 different breakaway runs, I believe. He was definitely highlighted on the video. I find it odd that Coach O didn't mention him, that's all.

I've said this before but as it speaks to Bo's personality: the last time I saw Coach Bo in person was in Pat O'Briens after the NCG. It was around 3:00 a..m.& he was dancing on top of a table, smashed but in a very good way. A great spirit that I am sure players pick up on & love in a coach.

Defense will be what the offense was last year barring any injuries. If Brennan has it figured out, I think we are 9-1 or 8-2. The predictions of 6-4 are insane, and I think even 7-3 reeks of pessimism. This team is still insanely talented on offense.
