Has anyone ever seen it. I mean not just saying "cover 2" every once in a while, but really talking x's and o's. I love watching him look at a white sheet, blowing a whistle and hollering 2 guys names in the Big Cat drills, but I keep hoping to see some kind of exhibition of technical skills, and it is never there. Sure, it is obvious that his great records over 7 years INFERS he can, but my question is simply whether anyone has ever heard him talk technical. I have seen him over 7 years on talk shows, press conferences, etc...and do not ever recall hearing him saying anything technical of substance. I have heard Mack Brown, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, etc....all talking technical numerous times, but can't recall CLM doing so.

Sure, it is obviously not needed to be successful, as his record shows, and there is always the "why give away strategy" perspective, but at some point, don't you do so a few times just by accident?

Does anyone have any youtube vidoe of any kind showing him talking this way over the last 7 years of LSU football coaching?

He doesn't have to. He's been a coach for a long, long time. The X's and O's are there.

As much as everyone tries to make it seem complicated and technical, football is a very simple sport.

I heard him once....it was like laying in a meadow of daisies and tulips, hearing angels sing while Amazing Grace played on bagpipes in the background. I cried

You see the big cat drill because it's posted online all the time. I'm sure when the cameras are off he gets the job done.

P.S. He's the head coach. Most of technical stuff is taught by the position coaches. That's why they are there. The HC has vision, his staff brings it alive.

I dont think x's and o's are his strong suit, though he understands them fine.

But there's a lot more to coaching than x's and o's and he's really good at all that stuff.

I completely get that. I just think that by mistake a deviation would occur over 7 years to show some outward evidence of the ability. After about 3 years, the thought crossed my mind, but I shook it off. Since then, I have watched all kinds of coaches speak for the last 4 years beyond that, and have never heard him even once "go technical", but have even heard "CEO coach" Mack Brown do so several times...it is beyond statistical anomaly for that to occur.

main job of a head coach is to surround yourself with the best assistant coaches to coach your scheme.

You would have to go to a coaches convention or a clinic where he gives a presentation to see him talk x and o at length

But with his standing i doubt he does presentations any more

Reminds me of a saban story:
Early on at LSU Saban gave a presentation at the LHSAA FB coaches convention. He talked at length about secondary play and right as he finished up he rolled through about 2 minutes of super technical mumbo jumbo to intimidate the room. He obviously didnt want anyone asking questions with his summary.

He finished and said any questions? The room was dead silent and he just said Thanks and walked away. He completely dominated the room and blew everyone away.

Why worry? You wouldn't know what he was talking about. This is why you likely won't hear this on a talk show, PC, etc.
You seem to be inferring CLM has risen from a GA to OL coach, to OC, to NFL TE coach, to 2X Head Coach with NC over a span of 25 years without knowing any XYZ, MOFC or MOFO, or X from O.

Really?

Would that a turn-on for you, like Otto speaking Italian to Wanda?

You rarely hear any coach, or player for that matter, speak about the Xs and Os of football. First, the media doesn't really ask questions about it, because they don't really understand it... and because the media and the average fan have no clue what a cover 0 is or what actually makes up a zone blitz, how would they understand if Miles discusses the wrinkles he puts in regarding them?

Xs and Os are discussed in the locker room, meeting rooms, film rooms, and during the parts of practice where the media isn't invited.
