Was 6 rows up in the South Endzone when the LSU/Tulane game was played.
Shawn flying through the air and taking out that Greenie is still etched in my brain.
Good Times
And 82, when Tulane beat us, an alum from my alma mater, Denham Springs, had a pretty nice day running the ball (Kelvin Robinson).

here are some highlights from that LSU 28 Ole Miss 21 game in Jackson in '77 LINK
This was one of those double header days in Jackson. I remember going to see us play MSU and Bama-Ole Miss were playing after. Amazing how they pulled these off, traffic wise.
My first game at Tiger Stadium was a Saints vs Steelers pre season game, but my first LSU game was an Orange throwing game in a 21-7 loss to Alabama in 73. Bear Bryant was leaning against the goal post and freakin oranges were zooming past him, but NONE hit him, amazingly. Been to some really memorable games, the 6-6 tie with no. 1 Nebraska to open the 76 season was another great one.

well, here's a basketball story.Honestly,I am not saying this to say "in my day" or "we were better fans" but only to paint the picture which is so different from today....Kentucky home game Jan 1981.Both LSU and UK were in the top 7 or so.Now,even though ESPN had started, they weren't showing live big games yet.Still, the game was available on TVS (a syndicate that produced basketball games regionally and sold them to tv stations)so it was shown throughout the South.
7:00 tip so student section opened at 5:00. Buzz around campus (may have been first day of Spring semester) was there was already a line.Got there around noon and there were maybe 1000-1500 ahead of me.Big party, folks had board games and ice chests with beer.Started swigging them down not giving it any thought (FR year).About 3:30 the LSU PD came by and in effect said, 'you have 15 minutes to go to the restroom and not lose your place in line.' Like an idiot I blew it off and even put down another one or two. Around 4:10 it hit me like the Mississippi River trying to flow out of your kitchen sink.Didn't know what to do. The line behind me was down towards Tiger Stadium. No way I was going to blow over 4 hrs in line and run the risk of not getting in. Surely I could make it until I got in the Assembly Center?
Nope. No way. Fortunately I had jeans on and not shorts or khakis.Held a board game over my lap and just did what I had to do. Once I got in the game, I bought a "Teem" anyone remmeber those?
and at my seat "accidently" spilled it on me.
It was worth it. Assembly Center was truly the "Deaf Dome" and we wore Kentucky out, 81-67.

That guy was Daryl Daye. The player that Supermanned the Tulane players to get them off of Daryl was Shawn Burks. A great time was had by all...Coach Arnsparger said to the team after the game, "We won the game AND the fight"...

I've told this story before but it's my favorite from back in the day. A group of us students went to every LSU home game. That was when you could get in on your student ID, no extra charges incurred since you already paid a fee for activities.
Anyway, we went to the LSU-Ole Miss game as freshmen in 1971, enjoying chanting "Go to hell, Ole Miss" at every opportunity.
It was a tough game and we were on the short end. One of our usual gang, name of Whatley, decided we were going to lose and left during the final LSU drive so he could beat the traffic. He was one of the few who lived off-campus. (Actually, across the street from Pete Maravich on Chevelle Drive.)
We told him he should stay because we were going to win, but he was a pessimist and left. Then with one second left (the magic second), Bert Jones hits Brad Davis with the winning touchdown and the place went crazy. We had many a celebratory drink that night.
And from that day on, we had a phrase for when someone did something dumb -- "pulling a Whatley."

I didn't say how many years I was a freshman.

That would be Shawn Burks, I was also at that game.

Actually that game was in '72.
I was there also as a senior. I think the best time I ever had in TS. I've said it before here, but I think its worth saying again. On the play before the Jones to Davis TD, an DB named Fratesi, I think, made a hell of a play in the end zone, knocking the ball out of Hamilton's? hands.
The Rebel flags they were a-flying in the south EZ because the play had started with like 4 seconds left.
WE were stunned until the roar started up when everyone saw the 1 second on the clock. Then Jones and davis made history. You couldnt find a rebel flag then.
Most of the LSU faithful just stood there roaring for like 5 minutes before we moved. Glorious!

My cousin and I were at this game. The sun was beating down on us and we were miserable. LSU was getting mammered so we left to drive back to BR at halftime. Listened to the game on the radio driving back. You know the rest of the story.

1. #7 Auburn at #9 LSU. Oct. 25,1969.
As a very young Tiger cub, my Dad took me and the La.State Trooper's son who he got the tickets from to my first Tiger game.
LSU scored on the first play from scrimmage on a halfback pass and blocked a late XP to win 21-20.
2. #5 Fla.State at #11 LSU. November 1982 - winner to play #1 Nebraska in Orange Bowl.
As a Soph LSU student, I witnessed one of the craziest pre-game atmospheres ever - an LSU student dressed as a 'Seminole" getting mangled by the costumed Mike in the NW end zone, and hundreds of oranges raining down, not to mention an eery fog near the end. LSU stomped the Noles 55-21. I went down on the field and was promptly hit in the shoulder with an orange :)
3. Top 20 Auburn at Top 20 LSU. Dec. 1, 2001
Postponed because of 9/11.
LSU had not beaten Auburn since the 'fire' game at Auburn in '96, and the fans wanted revenge for Tuberbville's cigar smoking incident in DV in '99.
LSU started quick by recovering an on-side kickoff and scoring.
Auburn kicker and Morgan City native Damon Duval went on to the DV field before TGBFTL was finsihed their halftime show, trying to be a smart arse and kick while the band was still marching.
He got shoved by the LSU tuba player. It was awesome

Probably why he didn't want you coming to the game.
There are not many older brothers who want their kid brothers around to see what they might be up to.

The other orange throwing game was LSU/Ole Miss in 1970. Archie had broken his arm and played the game for Ole Miss with a cast on his left arm. Casanova returned 2 punts for touchdowns and Craig Burns returned another for a score. It was if all of the oranges in Baton Rouge were in the stadium that night. Final score was 61-17
I was at that game as a young lad... In the south endzone!
Great memories!

I actually remember watching it on ABC PrimeTime Saturday night, Dec. 5 - Chris Schenkel and Lee Grosscup - 27 days after Dempsey's kick.
Ronnie Estay 'tackled' Archie in the OM end zone by 'placing him' down on his butt (his left arm was in a cast.)

Pretty sure that was Shawn Burks.... I remember that too. It was awesome.
he beat eric martin by a hair as martin ran all the waiy from the lsu side and reached the end zone (where the melee was starting) and kicked some serious arse. refs called the game over when they finally got control.

Some of these stories are great.
I remember Damon Duval getting shoved by the band. One of my earliest memories of Tiger Stadium.
ETA: shite, now I have to go watch old game highlights on YouTube for like 3 hours.
