Blair’s choice of commentary provides the listener with very little ability to visualize the play. When LSU is on defense, rarely is there a mention of names of people who contributed. An example might be, “DT Roy penetrated, forcing the QB to his right where Ojulari made the QB change his incomplete pass to the RB in the flat. There was good coverage by safety Bernard, nickel Ward and corner Brooks. 2nd and 10 from the 25.”

Instead, that play would be called like this, “ Robbie Ashford in the gun, throws to Tank Bigsby, from LaGrange, GA.” That’s it. No description of what or who on LSUs defense actually made that happen, was it complete?, excessive detail about the opposing players and no detail about LSU’s players, plan, reaction or results.

Offensive description is not much better, with detail usually centered around the 1-2 players with the ball, with the other 9 being invisible.

Blair’s “attitude to expect a negative outcome” is evident commonly and can be easily heard during LSUs 1st TD and Emery’s catch and run. In fact, I lost reception shortly after the Ojulari strip description and was pleasantly surprised later to find that the TD was upheld after getting onto Foxsports.

This radio product should be one that people desire to listen to- like the Saints’ used to be- as opposed to one that is a last choice. Improvement in the WHOLE broadcasting team SHOULD be expected; if not, changes should be made. Lastly, those wishing to advertise on this are wasting their money.

We’re back to being a pretty good football team when we’re bitching about the play by play guy again. The good ol days.

You’d bitch too if you HAD to listen to their broadcast as the only choice.

This is unfortunately what we get when we hire a outsider as our play by play guy.

Hawthorne graduated from northwestern state and held several other play-by-play positions before he was at LSU. You’re retarded

I too think Blair is weakest at football. The first time I heard him, he started with the baseball season, and after listening to him for awhile I thought we have a real pro here. I think baseball must be his natural sport and I think he could hold a MLB job. I do enjoy his basketball work as well. But football, not so much. He needs a lot of work. And I wish he would quit that “their very own” crap.

“he’s too professional”

I think when people say that he’s too professional they really mean that he sounds too generic. When he does show enthusiasm it seems phony.

And I absolutely hate how he waits for a play to be finished before actually calling it. Hawthorne called plays as they happened. Blair waits to make sure he doesn’t get anything wrong .

I could live with it because it was real and matched with the crowd noise for the play.

To be fair there were flags on both those plays

Other announcers somehow manage to be excited for a big play and then mention the flag after the excitement. So that's not an excuse at all. He simply doesn't have passion for the game and I'm sick of people making excuses for him.

It sounded like he was a 30-something father of young kids calling the game over zoom from his bedroom and trying not to be too loud because it would wake up the kids in the room next door

Hawthorne at least sounded happy to be there.

Know how I know that you didn’t listen to Hawthorn during the last five years of Les’ tenure?
