haha i have watched football my entire life... but have also played sports for the most of my life which didn't leave me much time to really pay attention to what was going on..

i used stats from 2007 because you played some real offenses that season but were still giving up more than they averaged per game.. the alabama game from that year really jumped out at me.. i used w/l from 2008 cause the stats say that tennessee probably had one of the better defenses in the country but i noticed they played two offenses the entire year in the top 25 and the next closest in total offense/game was 56th in UAB.. not saying they didn't have a good defense it just seems as if the the stats from '08 may be a bit skewed..

and im tryin to keep this a semi serious conversation but to the guy who said all im worried about is ole miss keeping pace with lsu.. 31-13..

anyway.. like i said before i do believe that LSUs defense will vastly improved.. and i can't wait till the season gets started

CountryVolFan...

Thanks for the solid post from someone with no dog in the hunt. Be careful using reasonable arguments on the Rant though... they're borderline illegal.

If all that Chavis does is mimic his defense from Tenn then I don't think Tiger fans will be too happy. We can be better than that.

Personally, I think Chavis has lots of knowledge and hopefully his new environs will translate into a more agressive style on defense.

This is a valid question despite the venom you might get spit on you by other people.

A lot of times when a team has a lousy offense and a good defense the defensive statistics will suffer. Because if you are constantly having 3 and outs on offense the D will get worn down and will give up points.

The reason I see Chavis as a good hire is because ever since UT's decline in recent years it's always seemed that still the Vols had a good defense. Plus, back in 2005 when LSU lost a 21-0 lead to UT Chavis was the defensive coordinator. And then this past season against Florida. Yes, they lost 30-6, but for a lot of that game UT did hang with the Gators. Why? Not because of the Vol offense but because of Chavis's crew. Now I understand people will say it was 20-0 at the half, but remember UT turned it over a couple times deep in UF territory. Not the defense's fault. That game really showed how much the UT offense sucked.

There are more reasons but I've typed enough and my thumbs hurt.

Offense was horrible. They played defense 50 minutes per game.

completely irrelevant to the question but thanks for playing

It's not irrelevant. You are obviously flaming. Based on Nutt's career, he will never win it all! How's that?
