larry porter and keiland don't exactly see eye to eye

there were dumbasses coming onto the rant saying he ran a 4.4 40 at the combine 2-3 days before RBs even ran.
I think the rant was barely online at that point...

I remember when this first got out, people were trying to say that a coach would always play whomever could help them win and that a personality clash would never enter into the thinking, which is one of the more naive statements I've ever heard about sports.

Same with Alley Broussard...he had games BETTER than Collins, but certainly doesn't have the "it" factor that you mentioned earlier.
Exactly. After the Auburn game, the Heisman race just stopped & everything turned to Baton Rouge. The Akron game was crazy..never seen as many different media types hanging around TS for that time period.

I have no idea what was said, but this can run multiple ways...if the coach and the player don't see eye to eye on work ethic, technique, team focus, etc., then the player has a big problem. If the coach isn't playing him because he doesn't like the music the player listens to, then the coach should be fired. I've also seen coaches play players who have great talent but who are cancerous to the overall team...

It was more to the effect of coaches always playing the best players and never playing favorites. They were basically saying that if Keiland was the best, he would be starting and that personality conflicts would have no bearing.

I am amazed that after all these years Cecil is still remembered. The link of Cecil's run against Miss St is impressive, but there is something most here seem to forget. During that run, Cecil lost his shoe at the line of scrimmage. He outran those guys with one shoe.
Personaly, I believe the long Auburn run was even better. The stadium was in an absolute frenzy after that play. During the TV timeout, the entire stadium was chanting Cecil, cecil, cecil instead of LSU LSU LSU. To think, with the game on the line,(3rd and 1 near the 50)Dinardo thought it would be better to roll H Tyler out and throw.

Forget the CC off the field issues. Base it strictly on physicality. You can pick one of them for your team. Who do you take?
Different times...
I will take "now".

In my mind, it's not even a question. Cecil Collins, hands down. Yes, he was a train wreck off the field and a waste of humanity, but the dude could play. He's the most talented running back I've ever seen play at LSU (personally seen that is). It was absolutely amazing how he could plow through tacklers, while at the same time had the ability to run around them or past them with his speed.
But look at the numbers:
Scott's career rushing high was 101 yards against Tulane in 2006. His longest run was 55 yards against Kentucky in 2007. His career stats are 601 yards.
Collin's stats for his first three games at LSU are the following: 2006 Miss St. (173 yards), 2006 Auburn (232 yards), 2006 Akron (179 yards). In four games in 2007 his total rushing yards were 662 yards on 72 carries, for an average of 8.3 yards per carry!
No contest. Right now, Collins has the better numbers. That obviously may change with the coming year, but right now I'd take Collins....assuming I could keep him from sneaking through the windows of women's apartments when he wasn't playing.

Yes, having seen them both, I agree that Cecil Collins was better.....and frankly, I think he was MUCH better. I too believe that Cecil would have been the greatest RB in the history of LSU, and among the likes of Herschel Walker etc... I remember when he broke his leg...was listening to the Vandy game through a walkman while at a wedding. I cursed, and though the priest didn't hear me, the people sitting around me all looked at me.
Collins was just power and speed with Earl Campbell like ability to run through tackles. Don't see running backs like that too often. Too bad he was a perverted thug.

Did you throw furniture in the pool?
Posted on 8/8/08 at 7:54 am to Rocket
If I had a pool a couple of kitchen chairs probably would've landed there...bashing all my wedding pictures with a 9-iron was a big mistake though.

I aint reading all the crap spewed in here, but when Collins got to LSU both Faulk and Mealey were on the team and older. After only being here a little while, Collins was starting over both of them. That Faulk guy was pretty damn good. You think Scott would be starting over Faulk and Mealey after being here for a little bit?
I remember one announcer, Herbstreit I think, say that Collins was likely the best back in America. Saying such a thing after so few carries was crazy, yet no one questioned him.

It takes 11 pages to answer this question? Did some of you guys actually see Cecil play? IMO there was no better rb ever to wear the purple and gold. Scott isn't even in the discussion. We're talking better than Cannon, Alexander, Faulk, Hilliard.....the greats.....no knock on Scott, but he isn't even on this list. No doubt in my mind that if Cecil didn't have the character of a mole, he'd have won at least one Heisman, maybe more.

What CC did his first two games as a college RB was lights out.
I am going off memory here, but against Mississippi State (which at the time was a good team) he went for about 160. That was his first game, mind you. Second game was against Auburn. Auburn had the best linebackers and one of the best defenses in college football. He went off for 225 or so. I don't remember who they played next, but it was a rent a win and he got 150+ in limited action. Then came the vandy game which was the last of his LSU career.
If you take into account his inexperience and the competition he faced, he looked like the best rb I had ever seen at LSU.
He could be stopped at the line if someone got to him early, but once he hit the hole, he was a freaking nightmare for the LBs and DBs. He accelerated through tackles like i have never seen. He didn't bounce off people, he appeared to slide past them without losing speed. He brought a lot of pop when he put his head down, too.
The only thing he lacked was top end speed. Well that and a lick of sanity.
