i love play action roll outs to the TE, we need more of that considering most teams will stack the box. with our TE's it should be a no brainer not to mention those are relatively safe throws and confidence builders for our qbs

While I also think that we need to use TE's more in the passing game, maybe they still come here because a blocking TE is more important to the NFL. Pass catching TE's get cut in camp every year because they can't block well. The Jimmy's and Gronk's of the world are an exception, not the rule.
Strongly disagree with your statement about blocking TE's being more important than versatile pass catching TE's in the NFL.

I think the trend is definitely shifting more towards pass catchers over the last 3 years or so.

Important to remember that Hanigriff is basing the thoughts on TE purely off of what LSU has done in the past.
He said "they'll have to show me before I believe the TE will be an important part of the passing attack"

Uh... Have we played a game yet?
Do you know something that we don't?....because by all means please enlighten us.

Maybe because our best receiving tight end was a true freshman and we had two 1,000 yard WRs last season and the last legit receiving TE we had before that was Richard Dickson
I get this its just that we never seem to run designed plays for the TEs. It certainly wouldn't hurt to dial one up more than every once in a while for these guys. I can only go on what I've seen in the past.

if you go back and watch the replays from last year, the TE was open a lot...

LF is the best back on the team and it's not close.
What's the opposite of suspect? That's what Charlie is.

Our seats are in the East Upper so you can really see the whole play develop. I can't tell you how many times we'd hear people yelling that the TE was wide open. Usually on a little seam right up the middle. Problem was Mett had 2 of the best WRs to come through LSU in a long time to throw to. He rarely had the need to check down to a TE.

JBeam, I think this team is in far better shape than 08 team. We have Cam Cameron and John Chavis who are miles better than Gary Crowton and Doug Mallory/ Bradley Del Paveto. Not worried.

Biggest question mark I see with this team will be the ability to stop the run. I don't think the interior defensive line will be able to handle teams that have depth at tailback position.

I'd be more worried about teams with dominant offensive lines than how deep they were at tailback. If our offensive line was dominant, we could run Connor Neighbors up the gut all game & it wouldn't matter how deep we were.

I mean, it's not like every year there is a plethora of tight ends putting up big receiving numbers. I would love to see our tight ends get more passes too, but where exactly are they going to go and light up the scoreboard? I can think of two tight ends from last year that put up good numbers. That's about it though.

Ugh...so we'll find out week 1 how worried we should be I suppose

I think you should define "big numbers". Because there actually are more than a couple TE's catching 50-60 balls/year for very decent yardage. You're right about a guy like Graham...he's an aberration. But if you can't catch the ball in today's NFL, you're a situational TE anymore.
