Many prayers from the Hog nation as well.

Upon reading more into the initial report, it said that he "lost some skin" which leads me to believe that there was a degloving injury. This is more of a shearing traumatic injury, subsequently removing layers of flesh. Again, if this injury was sustained, blood supply to the degloved skin would be required to maintain healthy tissue (Perfusion of blood=tissue sustainability).
The most common degloving injuries I've seen involved the heel, mostly in motorcycle accidents.
Full recoveries seldom occur, but Chad is in a great facility that will provide him the most current medical advancements to heal him.
As I stated before, I would recommend dives in the hyperbaric chamber to expedite the healing process and reduce the chance of infection. Here are brief articles discussing HBOT:

I agree with bamascoop that he will have an external fixator to stabilize his fractures.
Hang in there Chad!!!

Just judging on what i have heard in the reports multiple ORIFs or external fixators would be a given. Also with the degloving injury, they are full thickness skin injuries and need grafting. Typically have poor cosmetic outcome but im sure that is the least of CJ's worries at this point.

It would be cool of Stafon Johnson contanced him.
I would say it would be cool if someone like Joe Theisman went to visit with he and his family.
I would hope Eli Manning makes a trip to see him as well as the Giants team leader

The surgeons were concerned about saving the lower extremity vs. amputation, according to the reports I've read. I'm just speculating that possibly there could have been a degloving injury (see "lost skin" in the initial reports at the scene), and if serious enough, an option, especially for old timers, would be to amputate BTK (below the knee). How it looks of course will always be least concerning for medical staff at this point. Here, we want a fully functioning limb for Chad.

I hope that at the very least, he's able to play baseball. I honestly don't understand why he didn't go that route in the first place.
Especially after seeing him pitch in the CWS.
Best of luck to him regardless.

I'm sorry, this is extremely inappropriate, but

Just trying to make a little joke...sincerely sorry if inappropriate. I think I know my medical info though. :)
Unless I hear more updates on his status, I won't post anything without knowing exactly what injuries he's sustained. I know it's frustrating to not be "in the know," so I was providing possibilities of potential injuries based on the MVA and reports I've read.
Chad has touched many lives nationwide on and off of the field, and even if we don't know him personally, we care so much about him. Here's to Chad on a speedy recovery!

Baseball
His raw talent in baseball is obvious. He can hit, run, pitch and play the outfield. But he was a proven comodity at football and could hit the NFL his first year out. If he played baseball, he would likely toil in the minors for a couple of years with no guarantee of making it to MLB.
Also he showed up great at the CWS, but he only pitched a total of about 6-8 innings all year. He showed raw talent and ability, but that is a short term in which to evaluate his long term durability and ability in baseball.
That being said, I wish him a speedy recovery and all the best.

I litigated a glove injury. The person never fully recovered, but then again, she wasn't #3.
