Holy hell his helmet hit the other players helmet, he may have intended shoulder to shoulder but it ended up being helmet to helmet.

shite LSU fans are worse than Bama fans about these refs and stuff now. Of course most of the LSU fans probably think Ridley got out of bounds too.

What else is supposed to go back first & immediately on a play like that? I've seen plenty of legit hits to the shoulders/chest of a player...and their heads snapped back lightning-fast before anything else.

Show me in this video where the head goes back first. His shoulder (that Jones hit) goes back before his head. If you can't see that, then you need glasses.

Or people are just seeing what they wanna see, the play was close and I think the Refs got it right. I do not think Jones intended to lead with helmet but there was a helmet to helmet collision and it was a split second sooner to me than the shoulders.

LSU fans will never be happy though, most are unhappy to begin with look at Rant now a win and you would think LSU actually lost the game.

The helmets obviously slammed in the LA Tech game. These two hits aren't even in the same league.

That video definitely shows a big arse Chad Jones lowering his shoulder, planting, and laying the blow. It looks like his shoulder drilled the other guy right in the chin and then CJ's helmet hit the receiver. He led with his shoulder. The other guy just got smoked.

Jersey you are arguing for the sake of arguing.........Chad Jones correctly made the perfect form tackle on the WR you are ALWAYS suppose to put your head on the outside shoulder when making a tackle..........if you watch it 1000 times you will see Chad Jones make the tackle lead with his shoulder, his head cross the head of the WR and take a shot to the chest.......

Watch the head-Back and to the right, Back and to the right, Back and to the right. It wasn't Chad or Lee Harvey-it was Peveto from the grassy knoll.

I am not going to read all this.

Did CJ get tagged for a penalty?

No, I've already said that I didn't think Jones did it on purpose. It was a crazy, harried play and penalty or no penalty, the severity of the blow saved the TD. I give Jones all the credit in the world for that.

But that doesn't change the fact that it was helmet to helmet. And it certainly doesn't change the fact that even if it wasn't helmet to helmet, the Ridley OOB play was orders of magnitude worse of a call.

Here is my addition to this steaming pile of crap:

(1) It was a close call.

(2) Chad Jones wasn't leading with his helmet.

(3) Just because 2 helmets collide should not be an automatic penalty, and I don't think it says that in the rule book;

(4) Having the guys helmet fly across the field and 2 players injured caused the ref in doubt to throw the late flag because CF, like the Pros is trying to cut down on injuries.

(5) I hope Chad Jones lays out some Big 10 chump just like that in the Capital One bowl.

This was a legit hit that surely could have been called either H2H or not. The difference in the La Tech is that the guy in that game "left his feet" to hit TT. CJ just freaking leveled Adams on a pure football play. Too bad there was a penalty involved. But to be honest, that play was so dang awesome that I didn't even get upset over the penalty. The hit sent tingles down my leg. Oops sorry, that is Chris Matthews' line, but at least I know how he felt.

Why did the receiver's helmet fly off upon contact?

Whoa, whoa now. Are you saying the helmets did not obviously slam in the Jones hit? I pity the fool who thinks the helmets did not obviously slam in that hit.

The difference, imo, is that Jones did not go for the head. Both lead with a part other than the helmet, but both collisions ended up with severe helmet to helmet contact.
