Not faster right now. As a freshman, maybe. He could fly.
And I still think the consensus that his coverage skills are poor is a rant myth.
He was much improved late in the year as he settled in. Not playing safety for 2 yrs prior hurt.

byfar the best post in this thread .... i still remember his picking off a pass in the Ohio State game and getting pushed into their sideline and flipping the ball to a player as he ran through their team
Laron wasn't on the team in 2007.

What did mcfadden run at combine?!?!?!
I remember CJ runnin him down from behind in 2007. (before he put on weight)
2007 CJ beats Landry. Not 2009

i still don't think he beats a 4.35. that is ridiculously fast

Darren Mcfadden ran a 4.33 forty at the combine. Seem to remember CJ tracking him down also. Lets see what he runs and quit speculating, none of us know, and his trainers aint tellin!

so you think the Jones was faster than a 4.33 forty based on 1 run in football pads?

4.5 or somewhere around that. I think he runs a good time for his size. I'm going to be interested to see what position he projects to in the NFL.

I would base it off the fact that he is paying close to $7,000, so I've heard, a week at training facility, which the number one priority is to get your 40 time down. The point of it is, that particular run alludes to the fact that he has it in him to run near this time. Look at what speed training prior to the combine did for Laron, I cant remember him at LSU ever demonstrating 4.35 speed. If it were me, and the difference between a 4.4 and a 4.55 were millions, i'd be a training fool. Think he gets to 220 and runs a 4.4. There I speculated!

He better be faster than Landry or he'll have big time cover problems in the NFL.

he looked pretty fast on the punt return TD

IMO, jones has the hitting power as landry, but can definitely cover much better. im just sayin....

so then why landry a much better college safety? Jones rarely hits like landry did

I may have to duck after saying this, but I think Jones has shown better cover skills than Landry showed in college. Jones sometimes seemed confused as to where he should be and sometimes got late breaks on the ball, but when manned up, I think he did pretty well, sometimes even looking like a CB as would turn hips and run with receiver.
I would be shocked if Jones runs what Landry ran just because it was so mind-boggling fast. If Jones runs in the 4.4's, I think he moves up to a late first round pick. I say that because I expect him to show excellent overall athletic ability.

Not sure if he can lay the wood like Leon. Dont get me wrong though, I would hate to take a shot from CJ
Laying the wood only counts when you make a solid connection. Not only does Landry sell out to try and make a big hit (getting burned more often than not), but when Landry does make contact, he leaves his feet trying to knock the opponent over, who invariably get s 3-4 more yards. Landry

Neither is that good in coverage though
Like the majority of NFL safeties.

Youtube laron landry / clintin Portis and ya'll see how fast landry is !!

they are both better cover guys than Roy Williams was. Let's hope they don't embarrass themselves the way he did before being run out of Dallas.
All three would rather make a hard hit than a sure tackle.
