As soon as you hire an agent, your college eligibility is donezo.

(If that is incorrect I know with 100% certainty once an NFL contract is signed it is)

You are aware that Josh Booty and Matt Mauck signed professional baseball contracts before playing football at LSU?

Once you declare for the draft there is no coming back. Especially not if you are actually drafted.

Signed with an agent and was drafted into the NFL, therefore he lost his amateur status.

yes, but once you start your eligibility, you have 5 years to play 4.

they never started the clock period, he did.

5 to play 4, no matter what.

He has an eligibility clock that starts when he enrolled in school. To my knowledge it is 5 years to play 4. The only exceptions I know of are the 6th years having to do with medical hardships.

mauck signed into baseball after HS, he had never enrolled in college, and he was still considered amateur status for football with using no college eligibility

I don't think they started school immediately but I am uncertain if the clock keeps ticking if you leave school(I think it does).

As for the once you go pro you are ineligible comments, that has only applied to the sport you go pro in for some time now. I think it changed from the any pro sport to sport specific in the 80s, 90s at the latest.

I think he's got a hell of a shot. Based on what I saw of him as a very very very raw prospect in 2009, at least.

And best of luck to Chad Jones, one of my all time favorites. I can't remember the specific game but I still remember him coming over the top to stop a TD.
