I still don't see how a team with a rookie QB (especially in the SEC) could ever be ranked so high....see UF Brantley Hype before last season

2010 CFN Final Ranking: 12
2010 Record: 11-2
2010 CFN Preseason Rank: 22
CFN 2010 Preseason Prediction: 9-3
2009 Final Ranking: 27
2008 Final Ranking: 40
The anemic offense might lose RB Stevan Ridley and WR Terrence Toliver, but four starters are back on the offensive line and QB Jordan Jefferson can't help but be better. He can't be as inconsistent. The defense should be a brick wall with seven starters returning and CB Tyrann Mathieu ready to step in and shine in place of Thorpe winner Patrick Peterson. The defensive tackles need to be replaced, with Drake Nevis and Lazarius Levingston sure to be missed, but the Tigers always have players at the ready for the interior. No one will throw on the secondary, while the passing game should be stronger with Russell Shepard and Deangelo Peterson returning to make Jefferson's life easier.

wow...how can they think to rank Bama so high (especially ahead of LSU), when everyone expects LSU to the win the west...

agreed. I predict McCarron will struggle next year....most 1st year QBs do in this league.

as did Cam Newton. I just don't see how you could rank them #1. But it could be a correct ranking.

I'd rather Bama start the year ranked number one and I hope they remain undefeated until we face.
Would be an EPIC tie-breaker in the Saban Bowl series if we are #1, #2 and both undefeated!
Wow - I can't even imagine the hype that game would get!

alabama's defense will be DISGUSTING
their OL will be very good also, and they have trent richardson and marquis maze back.
is #1 too high? probably, but theyre definitely a top 3 team

the Qb of the past two NC teams were ROOKIES in the SEC (mcelroy, newton).

Remember when we were ranked #2 going into 2007 after losing the QB, 2 WR, and FS all in the first round?

Frick it we play those bastards and if we beat them so what if they are ranked 1 spot ahead of us. Take care of business and we roll on!

preseason rankings are only made for hype. Hyping Bama is par for the course in CFB. LSU will have plenty of opportunities to prove its worth.
Everyone can find arguments for and against why a team should be ranked higher or lower. The way I see it is if LSU can overcome its losses along the front 7 on defense and get improved, consistent Qb play, LSU will be at or near the top.
Bama will win with defense, but may experience similar struggles as LSU this year with inconsistent offense. If Bama's young QB can manage games without making big mistakes, Bama will be VERY good.
I personally like media outlets that give a controversial ranking based on their honest opinion.
Bama vs. LSU will be very interesting if both navigate towards the showdown without losses. The only thing that could make the game better for me is if it was played in Baton Rouge.

I love how Boise is still being sneaked into the top 10.
Also, in the description of why LSU is ranked where they are, they mention Shep and DP, but no Reuben.

No McElroy no Ingram and no Jones...Bama will lose at least 2
Posted on 1/18/11 at 12:54 am to Dodd
Didn't we all say the same about Alabama two years ago? Then McElroy went and led them undefeated through SEC regular season play.

I have no problem with Alabama being ranked high, people focus on them losing Jones when the reality is he only had one great season (Last year) and the previous seasons were more meh.
Ingram would be huge if they had no one behind him however, we saw Richardson, Lacy, and Goode behind him and all three look like they could be studs on other teams.
As for QB, since they are built to run first I don't see this as an issue. They may need him to win 1 game tops as the season progresses. Maybe he steps up for it or maybe he doesn't. Their defense will be the backbone for the team and it will carry them. They will pound the ball with the running game and use the pass only when needed.
2009 when they won it all their leading receiver had 43 catches for 596 yards and 4 touchdowns and their second receiver had 31 catches for 523 yards and 2 touchdowns.
