That’s what Day is doing at Ohio State after the Oregon loss.

Ryan Day said Tuesday that Kerry Coombs may not call the plays for the Buckeye defense on Saturday, and that structural changes will come for Ohio State following the Oregon loss”

If that is the case, coach O can replace himself with a better coach and that coach can bring in better assistant coaches.

If that's what it takes, for starters he can look in the mirror and come down hard on the person he sees.

Indeed.

That's step 1.

If you come down on players, in general, when their team leader (a.k.a. position coach) isn't giving it all (time, effort, good coaching, etc.) you will dig a deep hole quick....

... that deep hole will result from losing the players/locker room while still not fixing the root of the problem with bad coach(es)(ing).

Look at it this way- if the players feel they are getting the blame for bad coaches you've lost it all.

Now you may not want to fire people. Or change your system/playcallers. But you damn sure want the players to know that the coaches are catching at least the same amount of hell as they are- at a bare bones minimum. The players need to see that. There's no other way to say it.

See Chad Morris.

O's assistants determines his job security, not the other way around.

Not like O could call plays offensively or defensively.

I mean, yea, O is the boss. But, he needs to know what he's coming down on them for and offer a process for solution. Just saying "Do better" or "Fix it" is not good enough. O doesn't need to know the actual solution but he needs to know the process to arrive at the solution.

O doesn't have that kind of credibility or respect.

Saban, Dabo etc can swing the weight of their nuts around like that. Get it fixed or we'll replace you with someone who can. What's O gonna do? Fire some more assistants? No, the whole damn world knows he's at the end of that rope. O is sitting squarely in the same seat of "get it fixed or we'll replace you with someone who can" with his own boss.

He did this last year with Scott. And they didn’t have anyone to run the defense other than Bo. We’ve already been past this phase. The problems run much deeper.

At some point you have to look in the mirror and realize every coordinator brought in isnt bad. It goes higher than the coordinator. The thing is O can’t pinpoint what they are doing wrong so it can’t be corrected and he can’t groom them. No way he pulls their duties bc he would have to call the plays and if you think it’s bad now let that happen.

Assuming O is the HC at the end of the season & he fires some coaches, who in their right mind is going to come to LSU & work for O?

He can't. They had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to get these Clown's. There's no one to replace them.

What’s Orgeron gonna do, call plays?

He has used up all of his “fire assistants to fix it”
