I’ll even take “a little better”. Please don’t give up 40 to USC

This. Most of y'all suckers bought into it last year and was shocked when you seen how bad the defense was

BK straight up told us last year that we weren’t ready to compete for a championship. He’s singing a different tune this year

Don't we have the highest paid assistant staff in the country?

Let's not sugar coat it, if LSU isn't in the expanded playoff this year, BK should be coaching for his job in 2025.

Wasn't too long ago, the message before camp was we were going to pass more. Open up the playbook and unlesh the offense. People would get excited watching a few minutes of video of our quarterbacks throwing long passes.

First game would come and here we go running three straight times up the middle and then punt. Rants excuse was we didn't want to show to much if our playbook early.

But to be honest, it wouldn't take a whole lot to improve on defense. At least we got our offense back.

Bought into what? Kelly never praised the defense last year. He repeatedly cautioned us on the state of the defense. He did every thing but tell us they were flat out bad.

Kelly said our corners would be good last year. Everyone bought into it

At least it won't take us long to see if the defense is actually improved. USC has some weapons on offense, and Riley is still a good offensive coach.

Kelly didn’t say this kind of stuff last year about the defense.

Last year right before the Florida State game he said that he felt like the DB room was in a better spot than it was the year before because the communication was much better…

I’m not criticizing him for saying that, coaches are supposed to talk up their team preseason. But I’m smart enough to know not to really believe anything any coach says until you see it on the field.

I honestly don’t think he knows yet.

And I don’t think this is it, because it’s just too early, but I always worry when a coach starts talking up a weak (on paper) part of his team.

It usually means it’s going to be a problem.

this thread is some perfect Les/O PTSD

BK's not going to give some ridiculous quote he knows he has no chance of backing up. he's been on the money about his preseason assessments both years imo

I feel like we’ve been bitten by the offseason hype bug too many times now and I’m just not going to get excited about what the coaches say anymore during August practices until I see it in a real game.

Lsu had the worst defense in school history last year.
Was it worse than 2013 or that Bo Pelini garbage year?
Im not arguing btw, im genuinely curious.

I think statistically the 2020 Pelini defense was the worst. But only because the ‘23 defense played some cupcakes to polish that turd on the stat sheet. The 2020 team had to play an all SEC schedule.

The coaching change alone should make a big difference. But I'll wait to see how they are under the lights.
