As he should have and it should not have taken so long to do it.

As undisciplined as our team is, I'm surprised they didn't "clock" him. It would have been par for the course.
I know! I was worried Eric or Mwani would get drawn in - I was sure it was going to happen eventually.

To act like those calls don’t completely change the way a team plays or the outcome is downright stupid and shows ignorance
This exact thing happened after Eason picked up his 4th foul. A drive that he would have normally made to the hole, he cut short and tried an awkward pullup because he was worried Williams would come flying in and setup underneath him after he jumped. There's no way in hell it's a charge if the defender is still moving while the offensive player is in the air.

shhh, that's not in line with the "cheating refs" narrative.
And those cheating refs were so effective at their nefarious plot, that the team they were trying to screw was in the lead with 8 seconds left in the game. Cheating refs can't even cheat correctly, apparently. /sarc/

Williams fouled out, at home. He obviously didn't get all the calls
This tells me one of three things:
1. You did not watch this game even for a minute.
2. You don't know shite about basketball.
3. Both 1 and 2 are true.

Meant for Atl more than St Aug
Either way, this isn't specifically about the game last night. It's about the need to eliminate a defensive tactic that has no place in modern basketball.

It shouldn't be abolished. But there is a big difference between being in good guarding position and having an offensive player with his head down run you over vs. sliding over, many times while a guy is in the air or about to leave his feet, in an effort to induce contact.
The kid from Arkansas does a good job of anticipating and sliding over to get in position for a potential charge call. He's just playing within the confines of the rule. But there were more than a few occasions last night where the LSU player had already released the shot or pass and had almost landed, only to have the Arkansas player take a bump and flop to the ground. That's not defending a shot whatsoever. That's getting in the way of someone who is in the air trying to land.
The shooting in college basketball is already bad enough. No one wants to watch game with 5, 6, 7 offensive fouls called on shots.

We agree, when a player is out of control that is a foul. But many charges in college basketball are about who got there first. All I am saying is go with the NBA standard. That would mean just simply having position would not entitle you to a foul. It would then depend on the offensive players action. This forces players in the NBA to actually hold their ground, as opposed to making sure they fall over.

The charge call isn't even close to the ridiculousness of the plethora of and 1s called. On the vast majority of and 1s the shooter was not impeded at all, it didn't effect the shot in the least. The and 1 should be more rare than a charge IMO.

quote:I don't deny that. Refs call far too many fouls, on both teams, and they're often out of position on their calls, which drives me nuts.
As I posted earlier, the refs just suck at their job.
But the refs aren't cheating.
