The new Cotton Bowl is a better place to play as long as it is not in the old stadium. Capital One Bowl, as it exist today, has the better choice of teams and larger payout. I take the Capital One any day over the other non BCS bowls.

the people on this board overreact so much
the cap 1 has and is a better bowl for the team and fans visiting of that team
higher payout, played on a better day, better TV draw (usually) b/c big 10 team pulls NE market, better activities for visting fans (universal, disney, sea world), NORMALLY better weather
the ONLY thing the cotton bowl has over the citrus bowl is the stadium, and that is where you spend the least amount of time on your trip as a fan

Agreed. Dealy Plaza and the Texas Schoolbook Depository aren't prime tourist attractions and I doubt many Northerners get choked up over Stone Mountain and the sculpture of Lee, Jackson, and Davis.

Cotton was one of the big four, back in the days of the old SWC. With the creation of JerryWorld, I could see the Cotton being a BCS bowl again.
It once was up with the Sugar, Rose and Orange. The Fiesta took over for the Cotton.
exactly...as long as they had a conference champ...ie SWC as the host team it was a great bowl. the thing i never understood was when the Big 12 was formed, why did they not either get automatically tied to the Orange (formerly the Big 8 tie in) or the Cotton? How the Fiesta slipped in there is beyond me.
And the thing about the weather. People watch the Joe Montana chicken soup game and assume Dallas winters are like that every day. I mean there is as good of a chance that it will rain in So Fla as it is there will be an ice storm in Dallas.

orlando is in central florda, not south florida
in January, Orlando averages a daily low of 50, a daily high of 72 with an average temp of 61. the avverag rainfall is 2.43" with 6 days of rain (tied with november and december for their dryest months)
dallas, on the other hand, has an average high of 55, low of 36. they average 2.26" of rain. it is really no decision on which city has the better january weather

ok fine...point being it's Fla...it rains.

not arguing that...just this notion that Jan in Dallas is akin to Chicago, Pittsburgh or Buffalo as some (not saying you) seem to believe
and the point is, before the breakup of the SWC, it was a better GAME to be in than the Tangerine/Citrus/Cap 1. Not saying a better trip.

it most definitely used to be a better game, now it is an inferior game, in an inferior city (for visiting fans), with inferior weather in a superior stadium

matter of opinion. Payout doesn't = better game, at least to me.
the only thing that made this game attractive was the chance to go against PSU. Most LSU fans that I either read posts by or talked to preferred playing Okie State over any other Big 10 team but Penn St. People all over this board were moaning that we might have to play Iowa.
Plus it'll once again be a vastly superior game once the BCS stages an additional game there.

I don't have a problem with the Cap 1 bowl, but I have to admit that stadium is horrible and the location of it sucks. I felt uneasy parking my car and walking to the stadium, in other words, unsafe.
Maybe, it would be a great idea to build a state of the art stadium in the middle of the tourist attractions, that would make it so much sweeter.

its more than just the payout
it is on a better day for a college bowl, it has a better TV draw vs a big 10 team, and for those who have to watch it on TV..it is on a much better network for college football (plus has the ESPN/abc machine pimping it nightly)
its just a better game right now

if it were a bcs game, LSU couldn't have and wouldn't have played in it...so again, it wouldn't even be an option

with ABC/espn/disney being so close, and WDW having the wild world of sports...i don't think this is too far away

By far the worst stadium and field I've ever seen. But like others have said in this thread, Orlando more than makes up for that.
After the game I watched the local 10 o'clock news and the leading story was about how the Cap One Bowl was a "national embaressment". The bowl rep had to come on and try to defend the field condition because they were in the middle of bidding for the world cup event to be held there. This game certainly didnt help sell it.

My son and his wife arrived back this afternoon from Orlando and he also stated that the stadium is right in the middle of the ghetto... Said no taxi's were allowed close to the stadium and he had to take a bike taxi for $10 up the road to where the taxi's were parked ...Pretty sad for the 6th highest paying bowl game to be played in on a field where they could have had mud racing instead of a football game....good enough for player(s) to get seriously hurt...I'm sure there were better Hi school stadiums in the area Than the cow pasture they played in..

They need to swap spots with Outback, Tampa got rain all week too and didnt have the same issues.

raymon james didn't have as many games played on it either
a new field (turf) is going down in the cap one bowl, this won't happen again

I was shocked at the condition of the field
Weather is weather but the field was completely ridiculous... it's not just how it changes the quality of the game (which sucked... dragged us back to roughly 1940) but I would have been completely disgusted if a player had been injured on that crap

unless you like Disney World in the offseason.
Took the family, and it was not the offseason. Found out afterwards that this week usually Disney's most popular week.
They closed access to some of the parks after hitting capacity a few days this past week
Back on the original topic, I was disapointed with the whole bowl game experience. Though weather played a large role.

After thsi year, Cpaital Bwol 1 is a total fail. Lak of scence control dooms it to mediocracy.
Posted on 1/4/10 at 12:03 am to tigeraddict
regarding the disney experience I went to the game in part with teh intention of enjoying teh parks as well
That was really a bad idea... 120 minute wait for space mountain... no fast pass available? Fail
Pretty silly of those of us who thought it would be a good idea to go... the locals go in October when the weather is better and the crowds are much better
Overall, lousy field, and overcrowded Disney made it a less than worth repeating experience... if you are going to spend this kind of money on a trip go to Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico or something else I'd say
Or don't go unless you live in Florida and can just drive in for teh game and leave
For those of you who have been to the new Cotton Bowl venue I'd appreciate feedback on both the stadium and the area. Although I'm sure it suffers from teh presence of Texans perhaps there are some redeeming qualities
