I agree, to a point. You don't necessarily have to graduate, though. There are certain instances where one can have a really valid tie to the region/locale of the college, and use the term "we." In most cases, this should be for more than one generation.

he also says that you cannot say "we" when it comes to a pro sports team
I disagree, only if you have a valid tie to the city/region of that pro sports team.

Lighten up, you literal frick.
It's a literal statement. Your only association with the school is money you pay to go watch a sports game. That doesn't make you part of the institution, it makes you a fan of it.
I took classes from LSU for four years, paid tuition, and graduated. Again, it's the students' university. Not the fans.
Literal enough for you?

Well said...last time I looked the only requirement for being part of the TIGER NATION was bleeding purple and gold.

I think anyone who supports LSU athletics in any way shape or form can use "WE" as far as LSU athletics is concerned.
However, that does not and should not associate him/her with the entire institution of LSU, which is a much bigger entity with athletics being a part.
To be a part of LSU, and being able to use the term "WE" in relation to LSU the institution, one must be directly associated with it.
My $0.02

You don't deserve to say we. The point is what affiliation have you ever had with the university besides signing a check. In order to be able to say "we" you have to have some affiliation to that group, school, etc. I am not doubting your fan hood but "we" is different than simply being a fan.
On another note one of my biggest problems with LSU fans is what i call the "walk on" alumni syndrome. So many fans at LSU never sniffed a single day of class in baton rouge which is fine and I appreciate their support but it seems that these are the same fans that give respectable LSU fans a bad name.

That $2100 I pay for 2 Football tickets each year supercedes the fact that I graduated from another school. Screw Mike Golic.
So any non-alum can pay money and become part of the institution?
I could send $20 a year to North Carolina and say "WE" won the national title?
It's the students that make the team. Without the students, there is no discussion here. It's our team.
+1

You're right. Only non-LSU alums make complete asses of themselves. I'm guessing the only classless idiots that started "F-you Spurrier" and "You suck Cocks" in the student section were people that never stepped foot in an LSU classroom.

I am not saying non-alums are worthless asses. I am not saying they should not use "WE" in regards to lsu athletics. However I do have a question to all the non-alumns ....
What qualifies you to say you are a part of LSU?

My Dad and older sister went to LSU, so I've been takin' to games since I was a baby.
As I said earlier, I always knew where I was going...
That being said, I didn't feel like it was a "we" situation until I was a freshman...
The goosebumps I got when we beat Tennesse in that overtime game in 2000 let me know it was official.

I was referring to more stuff outside of the stadium but I never said all of the actions it just seems like most.

Who cares what Golic says?
The way I look at it, I grew up Louisiana as an LSU and Saints fan. Therefore I consider myself part of the collective 'we'.

It's a "Quid Quo Pro Clarice" situation. Without the students, sure, there wouldn't be a team. But without all the donors and tradition funds from the "outsiders" the team wouldn't have shite. No stadium, no locker rooms, nothing. How much of the athletic budget do you think comes from tuition??

So where would LSU be without the Louisiana citizens Tax dollars? Do you think the CHEAP tuition LSU students pay alone supports the school and all those nice buildings and programs on campus? LSU's Tuition is CHEAP compared to A LOT of school's including Div 2 and Div 3 schools.lol.
Hell some people spent more money in season ticket for years compared to the CHEAP tuition that's paid for 4yrs of school at LSU. They should be able to say we.
Now students and ALums of UCLA, Notre Dame, Duke, Miami, Cal, USC and other schools where Tuition is sky high can talk about paying for school and the regular Joe Blow not being able to say we, I can see where they are coming from. They can look down at normal fans but LSU students and alums looking down at the regular joe blow and saying they shouldn't say "we" because they don't pay tuition is funny when that LSU Season ticket holder for years pumped more money into LSU athletics which helps pay for coaches salaries, athletic scholarships, etc.

For people in Louisiana I'd say their TAX dollars. lol.
Should people that's not a member of the U.S. military not be able to say "we" when referring to wars. I mean they're not on the ground fighting or never served in the armed forces.

I am an LSU graduate and LSU season ticket holder. With that said, this is insanity. How does anyone come up with this nonsense ?

You are missing the point. Just because you give money to something doesn't mean you are part of it i.e. say "we". But at the same time just because you aren't an alumni doesn't mean you can't be the biggest LSU fan out there the two have nothing do with each other. An earlier post says it the best that after NCAA basketball tournament can we send a check to the winners' athletic department adn then be able to say we...Hell no. We is exclusive. And that exclusion comes from being a part of that university in some capacity...whether it be a student, coach, player, profesor, alumni or even janitor

What about members of TAF or other booster clubs. Believe it or not WE can send your athletic programs into a tailspin with violations.lol. The NCAA thinks of boosters as being apart of the university.
