I thought a lot of Canada's offense involved quick drops by the QB and quick-hitters to the receivers/tight ends/backs, etc. And with an inexperienced O-Line,this would seem like a great idea, but we haven't seen much of this. What gives?

Precisely. Those are the easiest throws to make for the QB, WR, and Oline...and we run nothing like that.

I bet you they don't do a thing with the offense. They KNOW it's crap but if they wanted to fix it, it would have come after State. No, they're just buying time and we may look a little better against Troy but that's just due to inadequate competition. Don't fall for the same trick again and again.

We ran basically nothing but quick hitting passes out of the gun.....and the Oline was letting people come thru untouched.

We showed a bunch of new stuff this week. Too much it seems, because we had NO IDEA how to block it.

It does nothing anyway, specially if the team is in a zone.

You don't think motions dictate movement in zones?

Orgeron: First thing Matt (Canada) said this morning was the need to simplify things (motion and shifting) #LSU

Better get to work then and earn that pay check then

Honestly, I thought Ensminger's offense was perfect for LSU.

I'd take the toss dive back in a heart beat. Let's just put it back into the playbook in just case we can't move the call on a below average ACC team for 27 minutes straight ever again.

Everyone minus the new RG has run it 6000 times. Apparently this line is not great in space, just throw a bunch of beef in a tight formation and guice will find his way to the end zone. You can still put Sullivan and Drake out there and they will still be taller and jump higher than DBs. Hell you can even still make one of them run across the formation a couple of times before you snap it too.

I like it. I truly believe one reason the running game was better last year is because the line was crowded and Guice and Fournette could blow through and there was no one back there to stop them.

What I see that can be incredibly successful is throwing over the middle on drag routes or skinny posts, some quicker throws over the middle where the big WRs can use their body to get open. Use double move routes where the smaller WR can fake going over the middle then turn back toward the sideline. Mix things up in the run game. I still haven't seen any kind of screens, whether it be WR or to the backs. I saw on many occasions when the defense sends pressure the middle of the field or the flats are wide open. Like that play from Brennan to Williams, we could have hit them almost all game with that.

Surprisingly, i agree with you. But its like Canada is not seeing the same things, and it's obviously not working.

I do think this offense would be a tad better with half arse competent oline play. The presnap shifts and motion and jet sweeps need to be used as wrinkles.

The only thing that is demonstrably better about the offense at this point is the coaching staff's willingness to use different personnel. With Les, we were going to roll with "his guys" no matter what. At least those days seem to be gone, which is good.

Dumb and bullshite.

Playing more guys for the sake of playing more guys does nothing. In 2013 were you asking for more Kadron Boone?

Well the "simple" thing is LSU hasn't thrown a quick slant consistently since 2007.
At least we threw one for a TD Saturday. I want to see more comeback routes, crossing routes, screens, we hadn't thrown bubble screens enough.

Maybe we should consult with that tight ends coach we were using last year. His results were pretty good as I recall.

Well, let me preface with this... I am not, by any means, happy with the progression of this team. I both expected and wanted more. Especially on the D.

However...

It is worth noting that the WRs were a huge problem in the MSU game. Next thing you know we have Davis and Sullivan (and Chark) all scoring TDs. Also worth noting that Chark's was on a 'gimmick, never works' jet sweep and both Davis and Sullivan were passes in the middle of the field. I can identify several changes there.

How many times have we heard "he practiced well, so he gets more game reps" only to see that player suck it up. WRs didn't perform. They lost game reps. That's accountability.

Syracuse has seen Canada before. They know not to show him adjustments to his motions. Just because you're not seeing a chinese fire drill doesn't mean it didn't affect them. I saw times where I thought to myself "oh, they are going to have to come back with that and do ______". And they did. Canada has been setting opponents up. Not enough IMO, but some.

There is progress here. Unfortunately you have to look hard, and not enough fast enough.

You do realize the motion has a lot more to do with helping your players than confusing theirs, right?

You do realize that it wasn't doing either one.
