Name me all the coaches in the last 18 years, since the beginning of the BCS and play off eras, that have gotten their teams to the National Championship game more than once. NOT won it more than once, just gotten their team there in order to have a chance to win it. Can you name them?

I would be happy with any one of those coaches as LSU's Head Coach next year, if you can get them. Otherwise anyone else would just be a crap shoot.

It's about the last 2 years. The program is on a big downward turn.

I'm sure LSU could scratch together $3.50 and hire Larry Coker away from UT San Antonio.

Northshore Tiger76 try again or just copy off of BamaScoop because he got the answer correct. Maybe you should read the question again.

Three guys on that list were fired. Two of the three former teams are still paying for it to this day. Tressel doesn't count. OSU had to let him go b/c of misconduct.

BayouBengals03 I did go back and read my question again and I stand corrected. The intent of my question was "current" coaches (on the college level) but I did leave that out of the question.

So the point I was trying to make is, in the last 17 National Championship games since the beginning of the BCS era plus last year's college football playoff National Championship games there have ONLY been 17 different coaches that have gotten their teams there. 8 different coaches have done it only once and ONLY 9, including Les Miles, have done it more than once.

Of the 8 that have gotten their team there once, only 4 (Bryan Kelly, Jimbo Fisher, Gus Malzan and Mark Helfrich),are still head coaches at major college programs. I did not include Frank Beamer who is retiring at the end of this year.

And of the 9 that have gotten their teams there more than once, only 4 (Nick Saban, Les Miles, Urban Myer and Bob Stoops) are still head coaches at major college programs.

So my point is out of ALL the head coaches of ALL of the college teams just in the 5 major power conferences over the last 17 years, ONLY 4 have been good enough to get their teams there more than once and Les Miles is one of them. But some delusional Tiger fans think it will be easy to just go get another coach and he will automatically get us there more often than Miles has.

I say if we can get Nick Saban, Urban Myer or Bob Stoops, then maybe their right. Otherwise its just a crap shoot.

How many have gotten their teams there more than twice? I think Les Miles's career is very similar to that of Bob Stoops, and I think that if Texas ever becomes a national program again and starts dominating the Red River Rivalry, you'll see a lot of chatter from the Sooners about whether it's time to move on from him.

Nick Saban and Urban Meyer are in their own class among the CFB elite.

Technically, he only got there with one of his teams. The first time was with Saban's team!

LSU has never won a national championship with a head coach who had won a national championship. Why do you think it would be a crap shoot?

Contrast Oklahoma which has a more successful history than LSU in winning National Championships. Stoops has not won teh Championship in over a decade and has gotten to the big game 3X but has not since he was blown out by USC. He has had some not so good seasons, but you don't hear about Oklahoma wanting to can Stoops.

Not sure if you are being serious or not, and it saddens me that i have to question that, but by that logic Saban's first one at Bama was third year, Urban's first at Florida were his second year and all Zook's recruits, and Coker was just a supervisor so the kids could play.

OK, now name me all the coaches in the lat 18 years that got their team into the Natl Champonship game with 2 losses?

We can play these games all night long, and it still doesnt mean Les Miles looks like hes at the same level as the other Natl Championship coaches

In that case, you can remove Les from the list of coaches that have done it twice, because the second time they didn't have a chance to win.
