Heard it for a long time now and I never really quite understood it other than some similarities of running style. Leonard has always played at around 235 and AP has always been about 225's. 10 pounds is a huge difference in the size and the style to me and always thought Leonard was much more of a bruiser style than AP

AP is a top ten RB all time in the NFL. LF is a top ten SEC running back who looked stupid against Bama a few times. Let's see what he can do before we compare him.

There running style is a lot of like. They are similar in size and build too.

Coming out of HS they had similar running styles. They accelerate and cut in similar fashion, very efficient. Also powerful runners with homerun speed. But, obviously fournette has grown differently during his college years. Many just have that ol' mindset locked in.

No, you didn't hear that. The only comparison to AP was that they were both once-in-a-decade talents.

AP weighed in 217 at combine and is listed at 220 on NFL.com and espn.com. We're talking about 15-20lb difference here, which is pretty significant. I think LF7 would have a longer shelf-life as a RB at 225-230lb. I am willing to bet whoever drafts LF7 will ask him to lose weight.

The weight thing is being way overblown. Combine schedule probably just messed with his digestive system (performing drills or being measured or interviewed when he'd normally be taking a crap).

A man that size can drop 5-6 pounds in one trip to the bathroom.

Nope, this isn't a knock on LF7 but AP has a lot more shiftiness

Speed, power, violence

Plenty have 1 of those, a lot have 2. AP and LF are the only 2 in recent memory with all 3 at an elite level.

Examples:
Marshawn Lynch- elite power/violence, lacking top end speed
Darren McFadden- elite speed/violence, missing that bone crushing power
Jerome bettis- elite power
Laveon Bell- elite back, more vision and agility though.

There are plenty other backs I could have used, and more categories to compare. Not since AP has there been a back that can blow by you, run straight through you, and also destroy you with a stiff arm. They can leave you in awe in all three categories.
Not saying these are the two best backs, but they have similar attributes/style. McFadden would be the closest, he was more of an all around athlete though.

IMO

Yes LF ran a 4.5 at 240, on the field he has runs where he completely blows by and pulls away from entire secondaries though. He has plays where he absolutely demolished would be tacklers. He has stiff arms where he buries defenders into the dirt. Very few backs ar capable of all of that in any given game. AP is another.
Can they catch, yes. Can they pass block, yes. But it's not their strengths or what they are asked to do for the most part. They are very similar backs in skills and how you use them.

AP is one of the greatest of all time. Let's not try this with fournette. Let him play in a game at least

I personally think LF compares better to Earl Campbell with a bit more speed.

He led the sec in all purpose yards as a true freshman and followed that up by having the second best rushing season (162.7ypg)in sec history as a true sophomore. He broke every lsu single season rushing record. He is the first sec rb to lead the ncaa in rushing since 1949. He is easily one of the 5 best sec rb ever.

Its amazing how these message board posters keep harping on his weight when all the gms and scouts said he carried it brilliantly. McShay said he was in a room with scouts and they were gushing about how ripped he was and all that weight was in his trunk.
