Maybe a little John Brady'ish version.

Midway thru the season, the up and down got old.

I'll take defending the 3pt line first

I’ll take having guys go get rebounds so we don’t lose by 17

I saw improvement as the season progressed, but the 3 point defenses was pretty bad

That was supposed to be one of the hallmarks of a WW coached team when he came here. I think you’ll see our defense improve as he gets his players in his system.

I think that's always been his objective. Takes some time for young players to buy in. I think we'll see some improvements next season.

We’ll probably always thrive more off of turnovers and getting out in transition than we will trying to D up in the halfcourt. We did improve as the season progressed. Not having Edwards hurt. Tech basically starts 5 guys like that when they’re on D.

WW can turn LSU into whatever he needs to in order to build a winning program

It's tough to craft a dominant defense with lots of young guys who hadn't played together before. Maturity and continuity are big deals

This was Chris Beard's 3rd year.

Texas Tech is not any more of a basketball school than LSU is, and in his first year he made the tourney. Second year Elite Eight. Third year, title game.
I think I read that they lost 5 players after last year, including their leading scorer. Looking it up, they were predicted to finish 6th in the Big 12 this year.

Simply put, the right coach can create a winning program in a hurry, you don't need a long time.
Theoretically, Wade is returning at least as much from this year's team (if he comes back as rumored), as Tech did from last year's.

LSU doesn't play tight enough. You must try and keep the guy from getting the ball above his head. LSU plays off a little trying to prevent dribble penetration and then defend once the shooter is in the air. That's not how you defend a shooter. You must play tight and contest him getting the ball above his head. If he drives you play help defense and rotate. LSU lets the guy get the ball above his head without being contested. If they would play tighter and force the shooter to rush getting the ball above his head that would throw off his timing and make for a bad shot. With WW they will never be a defense first team, that's not how he recruits. He goes after athletes that can score and then teaches defense. I'm hoping LSU will reinstate him in time to save the recruiting season.

May be too late. Thanks Alleva and Alexander.

Wade’s teams play at a higher pace so they won’t hold teams to under 60 often. It doesn’t mean they’re not good on defense they just have more possessions in a game. Points per possession is a better judgment of defense than total points anyway. We played good defense this season, you don’t win 28 games in college basketball by being a bad defensive team.

I hope he took notes on the defensive style of play of Texas Tech. I was impressed. This is their year to shine.

All true but Beard didn’t take over a program in quite as awful of shape as Will did of a team that set records for historically bad defense. Beard is a great coach but not all situations are the same.

Is there something preventing LSU from being an offense-first team?

I'd prefer that. Much more fun.
