It’s similar to Donellsonville or Donaldsonville, nobody wants to live there.

A sad commentary that all those people have been pronouncing it wrong since they first named it Hattiesburg, passing that ignorance down from generation to generation…

City founded by William Hardy( main drag through town is Hardy St.) who named it after his wife, Hattie. Hence, Hat-eez-burg.

My grandmother’s name was Hattie so that is the way I pronounce it.
