I remember that Colts/Pats game - always thought he was right to let Brady try to pick up a few yards and possibly keep it out of Manning's hands. He played to the strength of his team.

In our case, yes I would have gone for it and I agree that more could go right from going (the kick was far from a sure thing and he almost missed it.)

However I can understand the counter argument of giving the strength of your team a lead with under 2 minutes. But I don't think the chances of making the FG and the TD were much different, and the TD had a much bigger payoff.

While I do agree that going for the TD is a slightly better decision in the long haul, there's a 100% chance that had he gone for the TD and failed every single person on the planet would have been screaming how 'stupid' it was to not kick the FG.

I agree but this is besides the point. His decision shouldn't be based on how it'll play out to the fans or the media. Someone earlier mentioned Belichick's 4th and 4 play in his own territory a few years back. You think Belichick gives one damn about criticism?

On the other hand, we know Orgeron cares about criticism because he admitted it earlier this year during the Rece Davis interview on ESPN. Just another reason why he won't ever take the next step as a HC.

he made a coaching decision that didn't pan out and you don't like it. of course, if ARANDA'S fricking defense would have held notre dame, we would have won the game and it would have been a good decision.

while it's certainly the fans' prerogative, second guessing AFTER the result is a time honored tradition. it's still fricking stupid.

if ARANDA'S fricking defense

It's funny to see defeats now being attributed to anyone but the head coach.

O made a shitty decision considering the LOS, having one of the best RDs in the SEC, and the fact it was a meaningless bowl game.

Reasons to not kick:

Probably, but remember UF 17?
2. Your kickers were missing all season, including chip shots and extra points
True.
3. Let Guice get his last carry 4. If you don't get it, you will likely force a safety and win the game.
No, you probably won't get a safety.
5. Give them a 99-yd field if you don't get it.
True
6. It's a bowl game. What do you have to lose?
The game.
Reasons to kick the FG:
1. Dave Aranda
2. Defense played well all game
3. 3pt lead with 2 minutes left
4. Potential OT

We should have went for it but hindsight is 20/20. Had the defense stepped up and stopped ND from scoring, no one would be batting an eye.

Not an Orgeron defender, but we did have them at 4th down inside their 10. Game should have been over then.

Well prior to Orgeron, it was invariably we didn't score enough points with the "Miles offense", so just where does this instance fit into a defensive background head coach's responsibility?
Seems nothing will ever be his fault.

We had new information since the beginning of the game, and that information was that ND just marched down the field and scored on the previous drive. A coach should take new information into account.

the other new information we had was that Notre Dame had stuffed us all game on the goal line. We were 0 out of 6 on goal line attempts against ND in that game already that day.

You would think someone's who hates life enough to post 17 thousand times would have watched the game.

Orgeron the interim coach isn't the same coach as he is as full time head coach under contract and with expectations/pressure. The whole interim thing was such an obvious campaign to tell fans what they wanted to hear and build emotional support for the hire. It's comical how many fell for it.

To answer the OP's question, Orgeron just isn't a good head coach and there's a history there to tell you that but we can hope and pray he's learned from his mistakes bc that's a well conceived plan.
