Can someone explain the point of LSU issuing 1 year parking passes?

Is it so people don't buy them and just sit on them and never use them?

1. Things could change with respect to availability of parking from year to year;
2. More importantly, it doesn't lock LSU in to a multi-year price if they want to raise the price each year
All LSU wants is the money. If you don't use the pass, that's on you. In fact, I bet LSU hopes people pay for the pass, but don't use it. It's a win/win. LSU gets the money and less vehicle congestion on game day

This is my thought as well

They could raise the price anytime they want. It shouldn't be locked it. They raise the price, and you have a choice to renew or not.

* Flexibility on pricing - able to increase $ if needed
* Allow TAF members that increase point rankings each year to move up on
date / time to improve location.
I've been parking in 311 for 5 years. $500 - I think that is a bargain. Easy in and easy out for me w a short walk.

That is the primary reason and a corollary to that being they can change parking lot availability from year to year. So if construction or project work is going on, that means a lot needs to be taken out of service, they simply don't offer that one. I suspect they are thinking about adding another parking tower at some point, but who knows?

That isn't an issue, just like tickets, if you have a renewable parking pass, you only reserve the right to purchase the same spot next year at whatever price they determine, you don't pay up front for years at a time.
I am not sure if they have completely eliminated renewable parking passes or if they are just not letting people get new renewable passes.

If they are renewable, they must be tied to TAF points by their own guidelines. By doing them year by year, they don’t have to tie them to same system as tickets, therefore allow themselves more flexibility on what to do with them, and how to charge for them.
