Can LSU find a quality punt returner?

What I witnessed Saturday night was one of the worst performances by an LSU punt returner in a while. But it's not like LSU has set the world on fire in this special team's area since TM7. Even Stingley Jr. has never struck me as a natural all-around punt returner. I'm not talking about taking it to the house, I'm more concerned with having an aggressive ball instincts hawk back there that can get a quick jump and either fair catch an end over end, sometimes sliding under to preserve field position, or just being fluid back there. If it takes a cerebral white boy slot guy (who won't take it to the house but is solid) then so be it. This area has to change going forward, especially in to 2022 etc.

I thought Stingley was a freaking great returner, but people kept bitching about him not housing them, even though teams strategically never gave him a chance. He always looked comfortable catching the ball and always got 10-15. New the unwritten rules about not catching inside 10. I don't why he's not still back there other than to protect him.

Koy Moore...who also runs like a retard. I'd never seen him run full speed before Saturday.
Stingley being back there always fair catching the ball would be an improvement.

Where is all that supposed talent, athleticism and speed???

If they make sure Aaron Anderson stays in this 2022 class. He's their starting punt returner out the gate.

If Goodwin and Bradford come back, put one of them back there

Why did Palmer ever stop doing it?
Not like he's going to be seeing much PT at receiver with the young bucks breaking through.

This x100
I went to the Karr-Curtis game on Friday and watched in person. He is the real deal. We need to close on him.

I wouldn't mind seeing Bech returning punts. He is fast, big, and has great hands.
I think the posters comparing his playing style to Jarvis Landry have it spot on. Great hands, always seems to be open, not afraid to block/ lay a hit. Putting a "TE" at punt return is so crazy, it just might work.

Put Bech back there and be done with it. Hes is a warrior with zero fear and has tremendous ball skills and hands.
He would absolutely stick his nose in there and go for positive yardage.
I watch him for years and at STM. He was made for the mindset needed to return.
I'm with you OP....letting a punt hit the ground and roll another 20 yds changes the game against a good team. No reason kids that have the talent and speed should not be getting under those and catching.
Plain and simple, they aren't confident or comfortable

At this point I'd settle for someone who could field a punt and not let it bounce 15 yards down field and pin our offense deep.
We have guys that were good returners in HS so I think it's McMahon that's not doing a good job with the return game. Letting all those punts go is a coaching issue.

I just want zero muffed punts. I’d like some house returns. But zero muffs is the rule.

Exactly! That was depressing. Catch the dang ball.

Palmer is the punt returner. He was in street clothes on the sideline Sat. He already in limited duty has 2 punt returns for TDs.
As for Sat we fielded every punt in the first half. In the second half we were up big and lined the 9 men on the line. We let the punts drop short. Do you think maybe they were instructed to do that? We had already lost the national sack leader to injury. With all the men on the line if the returner muffs it you have an instant TO

Palmer is still the punt returner. He didn't play against CMU.

How about giving the Punt returner a chance? Go back to 2019, stngley had to fair catch 99% of punts.

That's mostly because they had above average speed against the talent.
That doesn't exist in college, or at least negated.
Bech is the answer to this issue
