No such thing as a stupid question. Only stupid people.

The difference is that Anderson fricked up OOC teams last year. Schmidt really didn’t.
You knew Kade had it, he showed it. Schmidt still needs to show it. But I think he can and will.

That's a valid question. I never would have imagined that Kade would become such a dominant pitcher. I thought Eyanson was brought in to be the Friday night starter. Kade's progression since his first year has been unbelievable. People really need to give Coach Yeskie credit for this. Kade should be the number one pick in the MLB draft. He has some impressive pitches, and he really proved himself by throwing 135 to seal Game 1.

Schmidt obviously has some absurd talent, but I don't think he's flashed what Kade has. Evans is the Friday guy next year unless we get someone ridiculous from the portal.
The similarity is that Schmidt has a very much plus pitch in his curveball, but struggles with his fastball command. His problems came with him either walking people or getting behind in the count then having to throw his fastball right over the plate. If he can simply fix his fastball command, it would unlock a whole different player.

He needs to add 20 lbs and develop a slider.

I’d like to see Kade’s whiff rate on balls in the strike zone. It’s relatively easy to get college hitters to chase but to be elite in this conference you have to be dominant in the strike zone. When Kade was at his best hitters weren’t even coming close to hitting his strikes. It was special.

Here is all Schmidt's outings before SEC play started.
1- 2.2 IP - 1 H - 0 ER - 4 K - 0 BB
2- 4.2 IP - 5 H - 1 ER - 3K - 0 BB
3- 1.0 IP - 0H - 0 ER - 1 K - 1 BB
4- 4.0 IP - 1H - 1 ER - 7 K - 2 BB
5- 1.0 IP - 1H - 0 ER - 1 K - 0 BB
Totals
13.1 IP - 8 H - 2 ER - 16K - 3BB
I think you are misremembering the start he had. Somewhere along the way he lost command and the walks became the issue. His stuff is good, and pretty much has been all along.

Someone with a better memory than I have please weigh in, but I do not ever recall a pitcher making such a leap as Kade this year.
Nola improved a lot but he was already starting as a true Fr.

Well, this wasn't from one season at LSU to the next, but Skenes damn sure made that kind of jump from Air Force to LSU. Sadly, I don't think Shores returns, but he would be a great candidate for it next year as well. Eyanson improved a lot from game 1 to the end of the season.
Pre Jay Johnson it seemed our pitchers got worse from 1 season to the next. Ott, Lange come to mind.
