I don't think it's Paul being hard headed. Hess could have gone pro last year. He's obviously a good talent. Mainieri probably promised him he'd give him another shot at being a starter if he came back. I don't know the specifics of how many chances he gets, or how much rope he'll be given, but it's the most logical and likely explanation. I'd think he probably wants him to stay in that role and has built the rotation around that. Overall Hess really hasn't been bad, but he hasn't pitched like a Friday night guy. Maybe moving to a different night might do him well, but at this point I'm not certain who would be better on Fridays

He can go 115 pitches or so.
I wouldn’t think Paul would stretch him that far.
He’s capable of it but I don’t see it happening unless he’s absolutely cruising and gets into the late innings

I don’t think Hess is a bad pitcher. That’s not what I’m saying.
I’m saying he’s not a starter, and especially not a Friday night starter.

Lots of anger on the rant tonight. Drink up and enjoy the game.

I’m very happy he’s only given up one. I’d like him to get more outs quicker, but if he goes 6-7 innings with 1-3 runs you’d have to like the improvement from his first few starts this year.
I want him to be an absolute stud, but man he was literally untouchable as a closer. I wish he was ok being the best closer in the country

Hess as a set up man. Peterson closer.
I'd be down with this if the freshmen settle in and Walker can keep giving 5 solid innings during SEC play.

Just to update the I can’t watch this shite group. I’m pretty sure espn cancelled the watch espn app and now is just using the espn app for streaming. The watch espn app is no longer in the apple store and espn app is able to stream the games.
