from LSUsports.net about Bowe:
quote:

Taken in the first round (23rd overall pick) of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs ... One of four Tigers drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft in 2007, a school record ... Also teamed with Craig Davis to become only the third wide receiver tandem from the same school to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft in the same year ... Played in 50 games with 31 starts during his four years with the Tigers ... Finished with 154 catches for 2,403 yards and a school-record 26 touchdowns ... Ranked fourth in school history in career receptions (154) and fifth career receiving yards (2,403) ... Is one of only seven players in school history to reach the 2000-yard mark in receiving yards ... His 26 career TDs ranks eighth in SEC history ... Connected with QB JaMarcus Russell for 23 touchdown passes, making the duo the most prolific pass-catch scoring combo in school history ... Caught at least one pass in 25 consecutive games to end his career ... Four career 100-yard receiving games.

yeah, Lafell is better than that...

I was just reading some of the threads and it brought out a thought. Watching Lee throw into coverage lots, I was wondering why our wr's can't shake a defender? They always seem to be out speeding folks, but never making moves on them to get open for the catch. Any thoughts on that.

They shake defenders, but one of Lee's biggest flaws is that he locks on to WRs. Remember that pick-six against Tulane? Byrd was wide open near the sideline.

This post is actually rather funny considering the company line on this board in the offseason was that Lafell is always open.

It's true. I think it is good leadership to get Lee's azz in gear.

Career #s:

Dwayne Bowe:
Yards: 2403
Catches: 154
Yards/Catch: 15.6
TDs: 26
TD/Catch: 5.9

Brandon Lafell:
Yards: 1442
Catches: 98
Yards/Catch: 14.7
TDs: 12
TD/Catch: 8.1

Byrd:
Yards: 1048
Catches: 63
Yards/Catch: 16.6
TDs: 11
TD/Catch: 5.72

Byrd and Lafell combined:
Yards: 2490
Catches: 161
Yards/Catch: 15.46
TDs: 23
TD/Catch: 7

Byrd and Lafell are barely as good as Bowe if you combine both of their stats. I think someone is having serious issues remembering how good Bowe was.

I'm not judging how good they are based on statistics, or based on their entire careers. Bowe was a 3-year starter being thrown to by future #1 overall pick Jamarcus Russell. Buster Davis was pretty much in the same situation. Byrd and Lafell have been starting the whole year, but their quarterback is Jarrett Lee (who isn't that bad statistically). Byrd and Lafell each started about half the games last year, if I'm not mistaken. For what it's worth, I was not a big fan of Lafell last year.

I'm comparing them based on seeing them all play. I remember all of the frustrating drops and tips-for-interceptions Bowe had, even as a senior being thrown to by JR. I've seen Lee regress this year and stare down receivers. I don't think the combination of Bowe/Davis would do any better this year than the combination of Lafell/Byrd despite being one of the more heralded WR combinations in recent memory, and I think it's clearly a reasonable assumption.

thats the problem with so many out of state players; I say the senior leaders from LA should own this team.

Bowe was very, very good, but Lafell is just as good if not better. He's still got 4 more games to play this year and his entire Senior season. He'll wind up with very comparable stats to Bowe with much, much worse QBs throwing him the ball.

yeah, Lafell is just as good.

He is a JR, so of course he doesnt have the numbers Bowe has.

If he stays, and he should, he'll be right there with Bowe.

Who also dropped a shitload of balls

Byrd's stock has fallen this year. And it's not because of the interceptions.

Byrd has too many drops this season for a top notch receiver.

He cost himself a lot of money this year if he doesnt improve.

The quote is indicative of the mindset of someone who should a the leader on this team.

Lafell has been given plenty of chances to show he's an elite WR. All he has to show for it is an NFL body and middle school catching ability.

quote:

I've given Lafell 2 and a half years to improve and he still hasn't. He has continues to drop too many passes and hasn't emerged to be what he should be. Is he a good 2nd or 3rd receiver. Yes, but he hasn't shown to be able to handle being a #1 receiver.

I, for one, can't wait for both Byrd and Lafell to be gone.

I think Byrd may be a little bitter that his money year is going down the toilet with Lee at QB.

Hammer, meet nail...dude thought he'd be lighting it up this season w/ RP behind center.

I'd be a bit bitter, too, if I were him.

If the guy is going to say this about his QB, why does he deserve to play as much?

Maybe because he is currently the 2nd best WR on the team. IMHO he is THE best but Lafells numbers are better. I think JL is more in tune with Lafell and he is his favorite target. Byrd has MUCH better hands. Byrd is by far more of a big time, big game receiver.

What's funny is how people give Miles free reign because he won a NC last year. They are willing to overlook anything he does. Uhhhh, Byrd actually played on the field and was VERY instrumental to us winning a NC last year. Especially when Doucet went down but yet everybody seems to have forgotten that. Lafell dropped sooo many passes last year but has gotten better this year.

I think that the kid honestly doesn't care too much for JL and it kinda shows. Then again, Byrd wants to play at the next level and wants to impress on the field and not just at the combines. Hard to do with a BAD QB, especially when you are not the favorite target. 55 catches for Lafell and ONLY 29 for Byrd. Hell Dickson has 24! There is no way Lafell should have almost DOUBLE catches of Byrd. Probably why JL has so many picks.

IMHO, your opinion sucks. Anybody who still thinks Byrd can hold Lafell's jock is borderline retarded.

Yeah. I LOVED it when Byrd dropped that pass wide open in the end zone last night. He has dropped several passes this year that shouldn't have been drops. On top of that, why do I see the coaches ripping Byrd a new a-hole whenever he comes off the field? Maybe HE'S the one having issues?
