yeah, but he isn't a sophmore. And, I know junior high WRs that know more routes than Byrd. I'm sure he's played football for longer than 2-3 years. I guess I should have accused him of knowing only one route after playing football for atleast 7 years, more if he played prior to high school.

He's been playing football for 5 years. His first year was his senior year of HS.

I'm a moron because I can't wait for two overrated WRs who can't catch a football consistently to move on and make room for players that might actually catch the ball?

I think not.

Lafell has been given plenty of chances to show he's an elite WR. All he has to show for it is an NFL body and middle school catching ability. Byrd regresses more and more every game.

I do think Crowton has a lot to do with our perception of what routes players know or don't know, though.

Half of our plays end up with Byrd isolated on one side, and LaFell in the slot on the other side with Tolliver or a Mitchell. He sends Byrd deep to draw the safety out of the middle so LaFell can run his crossing routes.

Its not just on Byrd that he only runs that route.

I gotta say the animosity toward Byrd and LaFell is pretty damn surprising to me, but to each their own I guess.

I have no idea what football team you've been watching for the past 5 years but Lafell and Byrd this year are as good as if not better than 1st round picks Dwayne Bowe and Buster Davis were, especially considering the fact that neither Flynn nor Lee are on the same level as Jamarcus Russell was. If you aren't happy with the guys we've got at WR now, you'll probably never be happy with our starting WRs.

It's also not just on Byrd that Lee has several times this season been completely unaware of a wide open Byrd 10+ yards down the field.

I've given Lafell 2 and a half years to improve and he still hasn't. He has continues to drop too many passes and hasn't emerged to be what he should be. Is he a good 2nd or 3rd receiver. Yes, but he hasn't shown to be able to handle being a #1 receiver.

Byrd looks good on about one play per game. You need a little more than that from a WR that many think could play in the NFL.

Add to these facts the attitude they have displayed on the field this year and you get the result of me wanting them gone. They have tons of potential and seemingly zero heart.

Bowe became a top 10 WR the first game he played in the NFL. And, Davis was a 1st round draft pick. Neither Lafell, nor Byrd will be a 1st round draft pick. They lack consistently in the most important part of being a WR: actually catching the football.

Yes, I'm serious. I love how two years is all it takes for people to forget the loads of criticism that were heaped on our WR corps when #1 overall pick JR was at QB.

I posted a couple of days back and I was saying "Byrd not tough enough" and got hammered here.

To me, he has huge attitude this year. Part of that may be on QB play. But he hasn't shown leadership on/off the field this year. Have you seen bowe or doucet complaining that much? Byrd gave up on too many plays this year.

I'm not criticizing the current WRs and I really never criticized Bowe or Buster Davis...but I don't think D Byrd and Lafell are in the same league. That is just my opinion, though.

I was just reading some of the threads and it brought out a thought. Watching Lee throw into coverage lots, I was wondering why our wr's can't shake a defender? They always seem to be out speeding folks, but never making moves on them to get open for the catch. Any thoughts on that.

I think that based on the past two years they're in the same league (well, more this year for Lafell, and I was a pretty big critic of his following last season). There is some reluctance in saying that because they were both 1st rounders but we were seeing the same complaints when Bowe and Davis were still here. Bowe was frustrating to watch just as much as he was impressive. I don't think those two could do any better with Lee at the helm.
