Bill Busch saw it in 2015 (Busch was only at Ohio St for one season).

In the post-Heisman presser, O was asked, What did you see in him as a player back then (when Joe was transferring). O said that Bill Busch came to him and said, "Coach, if we get Joe Burrow, we're going to the College Football Playoffs!" O told Busch, "Go get him!"

LSU coach Bill Busch was a DB analyst at Ohio State during Burrow's Freshman year. Freshman year only... Busch went on to Rutgers the next season.

Busch saw Joe throw against NFL-bound DB talent throughout 2015. Joe faced first team DBs almost every day in practice.

Dan Burrow, too. Dan was Busch's go-to guy to get the ball rolling and keep the ball rolling on the recruitment of Joe to LSU

I'd consider putting Bill Busch in charge of QB evaluation!

Hard to argue with that!

Busch work almost daily with Dan Burrow to iron out all the details and make the thing happen.

Many thanks to Dan, too!

No, not at all.

Actually more like a genius.

CUM has many faults, but identifying kids he can develop out of high school at the QB position is not one of them.

But Burrow is there because he lost the starting job at Ohio State to Dwayne Haskins. It was partly because of a broken hand suffered in a preseason 2017 practice, but also partly because Burrow was not the quarterback he is now.

“If you ask people at Ohio State when I first got there what kind of player I was, I think they would have told you they would have taken my scholarship away,” Burrow said, grinning.

It was a close call from everything I remember. Haskins just won out. I’m glad he’s doing well though regardless.

A bit of self-depreciating humor from Joe.

Not only was Joe "Mr. Ohio Football" as a Senior in high school, he was 3rd in the voting as a Sophomore. The high school sportswriters who covered Joe knew what he was. But scouting services couldn't get past the weak conference he played in, and the small size of Athens High - less than 800 students, 9 thru 12.

Money goes where it is well received.

O & E gave Joe the respect he deserved. Worked out well for LSU and Joe.

Hey Jeaux, can you give any insight on what kept Nebraska from offering back in his initial recruitment??

Even if his conference weak, a Mr Football from Ohio that is a three time legacy and HAS AN OFFER FROM URBAN MEYER just seems like a no brainer as a take for a Nebraska program that was starting Tommy Armstrong and only backed up by Ryker Fyfe

They only signed 21 in that class with no QBs. Did the Burrows have some sort of falling out with the program?? Was the Solich connection frowned upon by Pelini?

Terrible move no matter what the reasoning was by Pelini and then Riley who got there just a bit before signing day.

CUM didn’t identify Burrow as one to develop, that was Tom Herman. Herman begged and convinced CUM to offer Burrow because of his belief in him. Get it right baw

Burrow said that Meyer asked him to stay, but Haskins had a slight edge. Joe had to play and made the right decision for himself to leave. Joe and Urban still text each other every week. OSU realized it had 2 very talented qbs and chose Haskins who won the Michigan game while relieving an injured JT Barrett.
