The "we were managing the game" line is such bullshite. Your team had one legit scoring drive. Your defense set a program record for interceptions, and the game is still in doubt to the end.
It really sounds like you have an agenda, and the game was not ‘in doubt’ at the end. We drove down the length of the field to almost the one yard line and sat on the ball. That’s not being “in doubt“.

Was coming to post this as I just finished watching. Here’s a too long didn’t read entire thing version…….
BK in his press conference today......
Said he didn't want to really get into it, but the press asked him about Nuss looking like he was laboring. Said Nuss has been battling a torso injury and is working through it. He won't be able to shut it down until they have a bye week. Said come Saturday, he's good to go, but they've limited him during the week because of some tightness in the torso. It's an upper body injury that they want to be careful of how many reps he gets throwing the football. He's overcoming that, but they've cut down his reps substantially. Happened in camp and is the product of a lot of throws. They think he's on the other side of it, but they have to be careful, especially for the first few weeks. After the bye week, he should be in a great place...... Reporter asked if it affects the play calling of taking deep shots down the field.... "No, but we're not working on it as much in practice. When you get your shots, you want to be able to take them, but we're not doing it a lot in practice. We're starting to be able to pick up that pace. Started a little last week and will continue to pick it up more this week"
He wants Nuss to try to just get the ball in the hands of playmakers. They've not been letting him just rip it and that's taken plays away from him. NUSS has managed the run game as well as he ever has. So..... keeping NUSS healthy and getting it to the playmakers is what has to happen.
BK said he's playing to the strength of the defense. Went against the analytics that he's used the last few years. Feels the defense is that good. However, they'll need to find more balance with getting the offense in a rhythm going forward.
Said it was his call to play it conservative. He's with the OLINE every day and fully expects them to be really good.
Asked about running more I-formation without a true fullback. Said he can use a tight end in that position. Very few teams carry a true fullback, even in the NFL. Need to get into formational looks that allow you to run in third and short when everyone in the building knows you're going to run the football. Could be a fullback, 2 backs in the backfield, a QB run... all on the table. Asked about Pyburn doing it.... He looked really good at fullback. Won't be moving to fullback, but certainly could play both sides of the ball.
He still isn't happy with Whit's targeting situation trying to make a play on a runner and feels it needs addressing at the end of the year. Should be levels to the egregiousness. Said to the reporter that this is something he would talk to him about off the record. Has been very vocal on this issue and they know where he stands. Wants to have a meeting at the end of the year from like minded individuals with common sense to say "that's not what targeting is" Whit is playing this weekend.
West Weeks has a gastroc muscle / calf strain. Will be back out on the field and will see how it goes during the week. Listed as questionable.
Extremely happy with the way the depth pieces stepped up when needed. A lot going on and they played lights out. Still called blitzes and simulated pressures with them in and they handled it great.
Didn't give up a sack against a very good defense. Feels that if they had to go out there and throw it 50 times, they're capable of doing that. Not sure he wants to play that way, nor do they have to. Will be times in the SEC that they'll have to score more than 20 points and everyone knows it. This is about continuing to develop the areas that need that work and that is the running game. "I believe we can throw the ball every down if we need to and believe that we can protect effectively. So this is really about trying to work on your weaknesses and develop them as we go through this week and moving forward"
Scarborough asked.... No specifics, but are you happy with the recruiting of your 2027 class? BK grinned big "Very much so. Yeah very much so" Big defensive commits there and lots on offense. Still more out there. Pretty excited about the momentum.
Asked about the offense seeming to run better in the no huddle. Feels the same way in that maybe they were trying to be too perfect with play calling. Let's just go play. Let those guys go get the ball in space and play. The same thing with Garrett. Doing a little too much.... checking every play. He's so smart and can manage the whole thing, but sometimes less is more.
Asked about those critical of Joe Sloan? "I had to answer questions about being critical of Blake last year. He is managing the game he is being asked to do. We have a top 10 defense in the country. We need to play to that strength. Sometimes you have to pull back a little here and there. He's being a good coach from that perspective. Offensive coordinators want to score points too. But sometimes, I'm tapping the brakes here a little in those situations. That's going to be the identity of this football team"
Said Spears' growth has been his confidence. Made a couple of really big plays. Feels the safety room is deep.
Asked about getting wiped out on the sideline. "First time in 35 years. I got my butt kicked. I know a lot of people were happy with that. It's kind of an awkward situation. I was running down the sideline to call a timeout, because as you know, we ran the ball and bounced it outside and didn't get out of bounds. The clock was running. I was just running to get to the official. Weston Davis and one of their linebackers was locked up. I never saw them. I ended up in the first row. Nobody wanted to pick me up either (smiling), which I thought was crazy, but it got me pretty good. I don't want to be flippant and say I was in concussion protocol, because that's a serious thing, but I probably could have been. I'm going to stick to the story that I bounced right back up"

Asked about how does the offense adjust their expectations moving forward, especially with a lot of skilled wide receivers..... "We're getting all of the receivers involved. We're going to get Chris Hilton involved more in the vertical passing game. I guess what I'm trying to say more than anything else is that from an offensive standpoint, we know what we have as a team. I'll give an example and maybe I shouldn't do this. I'm going to do it anyway. I walked into the post game locker room with our coaches. You can imagine that our defensive coaches were pretty happy. Our offensive coaches were really reserved. Maybe expecting that they were going to get the paint peeled off the room. That's how you win games. You have to manage games. This one we managed. Last year we did the exact opposite against Florida and we lost that game. This is about managing games. At the end of the day, my job is to win football games for LSU. That's how we had to win that game. That's what I was referring to more than anything else (in the post game presser). I know it didn't look the way it wants to be, but trust me, that offense is going to have to score a ton of points at sometime during the year and we're going to have to turn it loose. Our defense might not play as well as they have been. We have a great defense and when we get into games like that, I'm going to make sure we minimize mistakes that can be made on offense"
Moscona asked if the play calling Saturday was a result of the result of the Florida game last year and the defensive pressure they applied..... "I'll give an example. Going into the game, they played 3 down only 4% of the time. In this game, they played it 54% of the time. We have to be able to learn on the run and adapt. We have young guys learning this for the first time learning and adapting as they go. Now that's on coaching too. When I go in there and they tell me that 4% of the fronts are their 3 down look, I'm going to say that should be reflected in how much they see it during the week. We saw it 54% of the time. There were some things we struggled with in the 4 technique. The 4 technique is hard to cut off. It's hard to double team to the next level. That's on us as coaches. Have to be better in those situations. The guys are going to be better as they are learning and adapting on a day to day basis"
On the OLINE.... "I'm really pleased with the protection. I think it's a strength. The two tackles are really good. Their kick slide and ability to stay square...those are really good ends. Those were really good SEC top tier defensive ends that's a rugged group. As good as we're going to see. Clemson was really good too and we protected the quarterback well. It's not an issue where we feel like we can't protect him. I think we're trying to be perfect and we don't have to. Catch it, get it out and let's go. More of that is what we should be and we will be"

As a long ago example of game management, in Cannon's 1958 game winning punt return game, LSU's defense was playing so great on defense that Coach Dietzel punted on 3rd down the entire second half. And that LSU team was loaded on offense, Cannon, Rabb, Robinson et al. With that big win, no one was bitching about that game management by Coach Dietzel Today's super all knowing fans would have ripped him apart.

I could swear it was Ole Miss doing the punting on 3rd down? But your point stands, teams that good defensively have to manage the risk they take on offense.

Wonder if he’s making excuses for Nuss ,s lack of play so far ?
Posted on 9/15/25 at 4:02 pm to skullhawk
Managing the game is no excuse for the lack of running game . They just flat out failed this miserably. I got the impression he laid this solely on the lack of execution of the offensive line.

Nuss’ health is not the reason the rushing game is a complete clusterfrick. It’s a combination of horrid scheme/play calling and coaching on the OL.

4th down and analytics....wtf....you've been a coach for decades. You should know pros and cons based on the game, flow of the team, and location on field. Analytics is bs.

I thought that was a classy move

Kelly admits that the offense will need to score more points than it has against some of the other teams on the schedule.
You think?

This explains a lot, and why he looks so stiff when he's throwing
Yep, explains why he under threw that wide open receiver vs Tech that got picked. And why they haven’t tried any more. Getting that healed will take this offense to another level.

You play to win the game. Not impress coullions that don’t understand football.
