Brian Kelly is not a players' coach

Which is exactly the change in scenery that the program needs following the acts of Dumb and Dumber. Exciting to see this cultural shift underway and what the byproduct will be with a grown up now in charge.

Brian Kelly is not a players’ coach. And that’s not a knock on Brian Kelly. Every coach has their own coaching style that works for them. But Brian Kelly’s not going to be the guy that you see doing the Shane Beamer thing where he does the Soulja Boy before the SEC Media Day.
Brian Kelly is a ‘diet starts today’ kind of coach. And what I mean by that is every New Year’s resolution or every goal is, ‘Yeah, OK, I’ll start my diet on Monday,’ and then the diet doesn’t start. Brian Kelly is a ‘No, you’re going to do things the right way. You’re going to start your diet, you’re going start doing it my way or the highway today. We’re not waiting for 2023. We’re not waiting for after the bye week. You’re doing this the right way or you won’t exist here. Got it? Good. Let’s roll.'

Well he did do a little dancing with Walker Howard so there’s that.

I can’t wait for Kelly to start winning to shut some of these stupid fricks up.

Eh, Brian Kelly isn't above having some fun. See the tiktok stuff he's done and then goofy photo shoots like this
The thing is, "player's coach" has become code for "let players do whatever they want". BK might run a tighter ship than some but he's not a "no fun allowed" coach either. He can absolutely be a player's coach for the right players.

Wasn't this board and the national media making it a big deal he was having fun with 17-year-old kids dancing with them?
Now he's a nazi that will drill sarge them?

I totally disagree. There is a difference between being a players coach and thinking you are one of the players. CBK is a players coach just different than what people think.

Let the man do his job for a few years, then we can judge....not now.

"Players Coach" gets misconstrued all the time. You can be a players coach and still have firm standards/expectations within your program.

A parent can be a friend
But a friend cannot be a parent
Same holds true for HC of major sport at major university in a major conference.

Well little Nicky isn’t either and look at the success.

The best way to become a player’s coach is win a shite ton of games.

Don’t care. Just win baby

But Mike Archer was and we know how that turned out. Do you think Satan is a player’s coach because I’d be willing to bet he’s not

Coach Kelly is a dam good football Head Coach/CEO.
He does everything well.
It will not be long before many of the "wait and see" crowd will come to appreciate how both sides got this deal done and when they got it done. Big Boy Football on display for the Mighty Tigers.
This year has too many if's to be special, but who knows, just HOW Good/Great Kelly is.
This is like the Jets getting Mike Tomlin or John Harbaugh and a top GM. You never know but optimism would be high up there.
But here, seems more tentative. And when you consider the alternative, whats there not to like.

Same holds true everywhere - parents, coaches, bosses, leaders can all be friends too - but the work is done and trust and respect are earned in the non-friend lanes - that’s what allows the friendship to develop - alignment is another word for this

We’ll have to see how the a-hole coaches fare with the current rules of the transfer portal and NIL. If a coach gets too rough, a kid will just go to the next school…and if he is any good, will probably come out better.
I can see where college football will change a hell of a lot in the next decade.
