I think Jones will be in the .280's before the year is out. Ross looks a little more lost at the plate than jones to me. Like others have said, if he gets to .250 I will be happy.

Chris Scaimbra really needs to step it up IMO. I know he had the weak hit today, but to me he does not look good at the plate. I know his OBP is great(and that is really all that matters at leadoff) and he plays a good OF, but I think he needs to start hitting the ball more solid or those numbers will drop a great deal.

I wish this were the case, but it is not for some reason. Coach has not used Moore in these situations recently.

But weren't the last 4 starters we faced left handed?

Coach has made changes when the pitchers change and gone with other LH batters (Sciambra).

I like the way Chinea is swinging the bat. He has hit some rockets right at people.

I hope he does well.

Jones has improved at the plate at least. He leads the team in walks.

And Ks.

He has done the same thing with Chinea though, using Edward to pinch hit for Moore against the LH reliever Saturday at State. I think it has more to do with saving the one that doesn't start to catch in an emergency instead of turning to Barash with the game still on the line.

You do realize that would mean he would have to hit over .320 for the rest of the season, right?

Bregman and Nola shouldn't really be compared. Nola was a very good defensive SS. But No pitcher was ever really scared of Nola. Nola was considered to be a great defensive SS...but his def percentage in his first 3 years was .960, .967, and .950. Now for a SS it's not bad..but it's not great. Everyone remembers Nola's .980 senior year...now that was sick.

Bregman on the other hand is an all around baseball stud. He is a great hitter...great base runner..very good slugger...very good leader...good defender. He is simply a stud.

Yes. I am sure you realize how streaky of a hitter Jones is. I am banking on him getting hot and staying hot for a long run.

JJ has regressed every year...except for getting base on balls this year. But he is a head case. I think he played in such a weak HS division where he didn't face many good pitchers..that he was able to be very aggressive at the plate with a lot of success. He takes a mighty swing that doesn't look controlled...as opposed to Katz, who has a big swing but looks much more controlled.

What would explain how Jones DOMINATED his travel team then? The majority of games a HS guy plays is not for his HS. People don't seem to realize that.

I think you're exactly right about that.

Bregman will be one of the greats. I have my doubts that laird and ibarra can keep it up, but if they do, there may not be a better lineup in the country

He's saying that your statement about Jones playing against weak HS competition is dumb.
Great HS players play just as many games (or more) for their select travel team or in individual showcase tournaments (against great competition)....& he was a stud in those.
